Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)

Watched a couple of shows on hay.u app. Not really the content I would go for, but the picture quality is great. 1080p like Netflix is. No buffer or stuttering either.

Anyone else noticed that Vince has gone AWOL since Hayu launched?

VM have a significant degree of control over it and could replace Vubiquity if they wanted to. They don't have such a power over branded providers like Netflix and Wuaki.

Vince is probably still typing his email of unhappiness to send to Mr Mockeridge.

Perhaps, but that wasn't the point. It isn't a blocker to other services being added, as suggested.

The same incorrect claims were made before Netflix was added...

I see a pay-per-view mainstream films service as competing and overlaapping directly with Virgin Films. So I see Amazon's and Wuaki's PPV services competing/overlapping with Virgin Films so can't see them coming to VM soon.

But I don't see subscription services like Netflix, Amazon Prime or Mubi competing directly or overlapping with Virgin Films. Nor Curzon which is PPV but has more niche titles.

I can see Curzon appearing on vm if it isn't there already?
This is available on BTtv too so wouldn't be surprised to see VM get this in the near future if it isn't already there.
I still stand by what i said though i think what i was told about Wuaki was a wind up not because vm would block it but because it may be seen as a conflict with the movie ppv service already on VM.
Netflix and Curzon don't offer the latest movies to rent (curzon does offer movies to rent but movies unheard off).
Wuaki and Amazon video do offer latest movies to rent this is why for now i see vm not wanting them due to a conflict of interest in the movie rental system vm already have in place.
EDIT:
Something i think we will see VM start to do possibly in the next 2 years is introduce a buy and keep option where you can purchase movies or shows and download them to your set top box or computer, i think this may be introduced shortly after the new Tivo is launched.

Curzon is on VM. The buy and keep solution is mentioned in the VM questionnaire reproduced in the Which? blog so looks likely.

.
But the free Prime videos, which are what most Prime members use, video wise, would be in the same category as the Netflix videos. Therefore, that part could be implemented with no conflicting issues.

Agreed. Some time ago, VM approached Amazon to discuss getting them onto the Tivo, but Amazon could not commit to that at the time. However, we've moved on since then and maybe subsequent talks have been positive. I certainly hope so as this will be a good USP for Virgin compared with Sky's offering.

Very true i can't see there being any issue with that part of Amazon instant video being on vm.
