Thumbs down Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

Just checked on My Virgin Media web page to see how my promised free speed boost to 200mbps: due by the end of this month (April 2016) is coming along, only to find that the message has changed saying it is now due between September 2016 and February 2017.

Called retentions and told them what I think of their promises especially after the recent price increase. I was told I could have the speed boost now without the wait, but NOT for free.

Come on Virgin Media, you're taking the pi**

Re: Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

Sadly it's not a guaranteed upgrade date and it's not related to your price increase.

If you adopted the tone with retentions your post implies you did I'm shocked that they didn't go out of their way to help you.

Could be worse. You could be in a non-cabled area and just not have tier upgrades but still get price rises.

Yes. Could be worse. I am moving to an area with 3.4mbps. However it's an idelic country location. I couldn't give a rate arse about broadband speed luckily

Re: Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

I'm in Wigan and spoke to retentions in January and got the speed boost to 200Mbps and my bill reduced for agreeing to re contract. Mind you I was within the price rise cancel penalty free window and I didn't accuse them of taking the pi** so maybe that is the difference. A friend of mine also spoke to them back then and got the speed boost for free and £50 credit to offset the price rise.

That's a shame, I'm in the WN2 area and was looking forward to the speed increase.

Re: Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

No guys I wasn't rude to the guy in retentions in fact he did his best to see what he could offer but nothing without an increase in monthly charges.

The Vivid speed boost has been promoted for months and months as arriving in my area at the end of April 2016, and with only 4 weeks to go, they add on at least another 6 months.

And to me the wording implies it will be happening, not we hope it will! That's what I find annoying.

Hold on tight Your speed boost is on the way...
Your speed upgrade will be ready to take your connection from up to 152Mbps to up to 200Mbps. It's all thanks to DOCSIS® 3 - the magic in our cables.

Look out for it between September 2016 and February 2017.

PS.It was saying ..... April 2016

I'm getting a old moaner in my old age, sorry about that.

PPS Does anyone know if I will need a new modem for the upgrade? I have a SuperHub 2 (not 2ac)

Re: Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

Just teasing about you being rude

The offers that retentions can make change all the time. It will also help if you are out of contract or they have just announced a price increase and can leave penalty free.

I think all of the previous free speed boosts have suffered delays and been pushed back from their original estimated dates. So I was expecting this, which is why I spoke to retentions back in January. Well that and the price increase. I'm sure there will be small print that makes it clear they are only estimated dates.

I have the SH2 and getting 200Mbps speeds in modem mode with a Netgear R7000 router, so you don't need a new hub.

You could be in the Lewisham Headend (ex C&W area I think) ... ours have been put back, again, and they won't even announce new dates until somewhere between Nov 2016 and April 2017. Makes you wonder if lack of effective competition in the high speed internet space has got VM feeling a bit lazy.

Re: Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

I got bored of waiting and seeing the date for the upgrade being postponed.

I put my hand in my pocket and paid a few £ extra and got upgraded to 200Mb.

208Mbps on a speedtest connected to the Luton core.

I really would like to see the 12Mbp upstream increased soon, and will happily pay extra for it!

You want the upgrade badly, dip your hand in your pocket and pay a fiver extra for a extra 50Mb downstream, seems a bargain to me!!

Got the new white superhub (Arris manufacturer it) and handy to have 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz dual capability, very handy.

Seems to me that we've already received a price increase, just didn't get the extra service. That being said, I would pay an extra fiver for an additional 50Mb upstream

Re: Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

Just checked and mine is now saying between September and next April as well, how much extra is it to get the boost, and if the speed is available why should we have to pay extra to get it when it is supposed to be free?

The issue is your area couldn't cope with everyone getting upgraded at once. Ideally, it has some extra capacity but not enough, so they can let new customers have it as an extra incentive for them to join, but you have to wait your turn.

Re: Wigan Area Speed Boost put back

Seems my local area cant handle two of us (that I know of) on Homeworks+(300Mb)

Results are not very good, may as well go back to 200Mb tbh, a phone call on Monday giving VM the chance to sort it out before back to 200Mb service.
