Speed increase
Our area is soon getting the speed increase. We are currently on the 150meg and wondered what the new speed will be. I assume it will be 200meg but I have just done the postcode check for an address I lived at that had no cable service from VM but not it does and it says up to 300meg.

Re: Speed increase
Your free upgrade will be to 200Mb but, if you wish, there is a new 300Mb service available for an additional charge.

Ok thank you for that. I wonder how much extra the 300meg is.

Re: Speed increase
Those who have the service already suggest the upload is nominally 20Mb. Of course, the configuration file will be provisioned for slightly more than this.

Re: Speed increase
I wonder how long it will be before they make it available to residential customers.

Following the upgrades section from my Account home page there is an offer for Homeworks + 300 Mbs. Naturally, I rang the number given and ended up with 'sales'.
They said that I could have Homeworks, but put me through to customer services for the 300Mb request. CS, after a very long delay, said that 300Mb was available in my area at the end of the month. ( I started to sense BS at CS.) Upon asking what the up speed would be, again after a long wait, they told me 50Mb!
Yeah! That's what I thought.

Homeworks is not business broadband. It's residential.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the increase your price will prob increase before then.
the postcode checker told me nov last year never happened then march this year never happened now there saying end of august. 200meg has been available since November the next door neighbour has it as he upgraded to then XL from L. I suppose if I was to phone em up and complain they'd prob give the increase. im just not the phoning up and complaining type.

I know but it is marketed towards people who want to run a business from home and you have to ring up for it. When you go through the normal VM bb page and log in to myVM the max it says I can have is 200mbits.

More the people that work from home rather than people actually running a business. Those people would still need Business broadband,

Re: Speed increase
ah, I was wondering because it said the service requires a shub3 and I wasn't sure whether it was because there was only one 300mbit config which is for the shub3 (and not shub 1 or 2) or whether it was to do with the business firmware they would be running for the service/tier.

HomeWorks + 300Mbit has exactly the same firmware on the Hub 3.0 as any of the other residential tiers.
If you get 300Mb from Virgin Media Business you get different hardware that has specific firmware to enable the business related features.

Re: Speed increase
Ben is there any news when the business services will catch up with Homeworks in terms of upload speeds? I note that the Homeworks upload is 20 Mb/s but business 100, 200, 300 still are quoted at 15 Mb/s
