You do have a hand to play, you have viewer numbers (for advertising) and money.
VM's argument for selling the channels was that its channels did not drive subscriptions whereas faster speeds and a bigger network do drive subscriptions. LGI does own stakes in some content businesses - 50% of All3Media, 100% of TV3 in Ireland and 9.9% of ITV so things may change here in the future.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
Apart from VM are losing customers...higher broadband speeds or not.
Sky withdrawing their basic channels from VM had minimal effect.
I'm also not saying that when the 9 year contract comes up for re-newel then Sky will withdraw ANY channels; I'm merely pointing out that at the start of the 9 year contract negotiations VM had a bargaining tool; they had channels to sell.
What do they have now? A reduced customer base!
Not brilliant eh!

I think that's incorrect. VM's customer base is far larger now than ten years ago. Don't forget LGI also owns VM Ireland and bought Smallworld as well.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
Apologies I was referring to an article on here about how VM have lost customers as a % relative to last year not as a whole since 10 years ago...but still, not a great position.

Virgin Media UK's deal for Sky is not up til 2019.
http://mediaboyblog.blogspot.co.uk/2...ike-major.html
Virgin did re sign that 9 year deal in 2014 this time just for 5 years so that Sky Sports 3 HD, Sky Sports 4 HD, Sky Sports 5 HD (from launch) and Sky Sports F1 HD, with Sky Sports News HD and Sky News HD all launch on Virgin Media UK.

I'm surprised that they don't appear to be putting QVC Beauty HD and QVC+1 HD on at the same time; perhaps these are Freeview exclusives to drive up sales of Freeview HD boxes like Channel 4+1 HD etc??

On that link we posted we found Liberty Interactive also own:
-Expedia, Inc.
-Time Warner Inc. (1% through Liberty Capital and 2% through Liberty Interactive)
-Viacom Inc. (1%)

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
Sky Sports Mix, looks like a sky customer exclusive
In its latest attempt to get one over BT, Sky has announced Sky Sports Mix, a new channel that’ll be free for all of its TV customers across the UK and Ireland. It’s set to launch this summer, and will televise a variety of live sporting events, including both men’s and women’s football from home and abroad, as well as cricket and golf. But mainly football (hopefully).

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
I`m wondering though if much of it`s content will be mirrored on one of their other sports channels like sky sports 5 often has the same live football match on as on other sky sports channel? Still it`ll be good for non sky sports subscribers. Thought it might of been on virgin too though but I understand why it isn`t.

All its content will mirror the Sky Sports channels , it's being used to give those subscribers who don't take Sky Sports a taste of certain sports.

So it's a new game by Sky, if you are a virgin media sky sports customer you get access to all, virgin media non sky sports then nothing but sky customers who don't subscribe to sky sports get access to some sports so not fair

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)
Well, we don't know for sure until Virgin Media tell us what's going on (or if it doesn't arrive on the start date!).
However, I wouldn't get your hopes up...

Why is it not fair Andrew? Each provider has the right to do as they wish. If you wish to get all the benefits Sky have to offer then you subscribe to Sky, same with Virgin Media and BT.
For example I switched to Sky TV from VM last year but then if I want BT Sports in HD then it's £23.99 per month. However if I take BT broadband I can get the same package for £9.00 (or less at the moment). Or if I take VM XL TV I get it free! I don't believe that's unfair, it's simply competition and you have the option to pay whichever company you wish to provide the services you require.
Sky are fighting back at BT and offering some free sports to their customers who don't subscribe to Sky Sports. If you want this new channel then Sky is the place to be (unless you have the Sky Sports package on another provider).
You have the option to pay whomever you wish for your pay TV package so use your consumer power and choose the best one for you. That will then be fair!
