I don't know, pb, AMC is not such a bad channel. They are showing some decent films between the TV series and it's far better than some of the new channels Virgin Media tend to introduce these days.

If they are happy to spend money on the likes of Lifetime and ITV Be, then AMC should be a no brainer.

Hmmm. TCM is no match for Fox, though. I would not be a happy bunny if I was a BT subscriber!

Surely AMC can't be happy about all this? 2 of their flagship shows not reaching their full viewership potential. Fear the Walking Dead on a channel hardly anyone can receive and The Walking Dead being pulled off BT

But the premium US cable channels; HBO, Showtime, Starz and AMC, aren't about films. In recent years, their reputation has been built on quality TV drama, and that is what drives subscriptions to these channels.

With virtually all of AMC's current shows on other UK services, what real value does AMC have at this present time?

I said TCM as chances are sky channels are probably a no no bt have universal, syfy, w, alibi already which would leave TCM as the viable option for now unless SKY and BT kiss and make up which is highly unlikely.
I do agree with you AMC would improve it's ratings if it was on VM too they could throw it in with the bt sport sub or xl tv pack, as you said they do show decent movies i have bt tv which i rarely use but i tend to watch the odd movie on AMC.

It doesn't really have much value at this moment it's broadcast hours are 7pm-4am which will probably incrase if the channel survives long enough and when major rights start becoming available agan.
However AMC can easily show old episodes of shows such as the walking dead season 1 etc i would imagine.
They are already doing this with breaking bad, rectify and the shield.

Yes, they do show old content, which all digital channels do. but to have value as a premium channel, they must have the rights to the current roster of shows. Otherwise they are not worth the price associated with a premium channel. Many of their old shows are available elsewhere.

But as I said previously, BT may be prepared to wait until the current AMC shows with rights tied up on other networks, run their course and then presumably BT will have the option on first run rights on all AMC shows.

Until they get close to that, IMHO, VM would be foolish to pay a premium price for AMC.

I agree mate. For example If AMC do not let Fox have the rights to the new/future Walking Dead seasons and give them to BT, then that's when VM should start looking into it.

I can't imagine that Fox not being on one relatively unimportant TV platform in one country is that significant for AMC which sells its content globally.
I don't think AMC's viewership levels is because few people can get it - I think about 5m subscribers can access to it via the Sky and BT YouView platforms. If BT is paying big bucks for the channel then AMC may be prepared to accept the situation in the short term until the channel has better rights. At this stage, it may want to go onto more platforms but as one channel on its own how could it achieve this? Maybe going into something like M+ on VM and the Entertainment Pack on Sky?

But why would VM pay for a channel that has hardly new content to offer?

And given that AMC is a premium channel, theoretically it would demand a high price for VM to acquire it.

For the same reason they pay for Home, Shed, CBS Reality, Quest, Home and Health, etc, etc., I presume.

I'm not an expert on this, but isn't AMC just another bundled pay channel on BT? I didn't think it was a 'premium' channel like Sky Movies.

Looking through next week's schedules, I would say this channel compared very well with Sky 1 in the evenings. I certainly wouldn't be sniffy about it and would welcome a new channel like this that was actually worth having. Next week I would be recording the TV series 'Manhattan', 'Weeds' and 'Rectify' and films 'A Single Man', 'Only God Forgives' and 'We Were Soldiers'. I would also have watched 'Breaking Bad' and 'Mad Men' had I not already seen them (which many have not).

The only programmes I am recording from Sky 1 next week are 'Limitless' and 'Stan Lee's Lucky Man'.

.
This is what you are not understanding. AMC, is a premium US cable channel. It is in the same category as HBO, Showtime and Starz. These channels specialise in premium TV content, and, in the US, require extra payment for each of these channels over and above a standard pay TV subscription.

If adding AMC would cost the same to VM as adding one of the channels you mention (Home, Shed, CBS Reality, Quest, Home and Health, etc.) then you would have a very good point. But because AMC is a premium channel, it will cost VM a heck of a lot more than the channels that you mention.

But because at the moment it is mainly showing repeats, many of which are available elsewhere, it is not worth it's premium cost.

Your Amazon Prime and Netflix subscriptions are currently giving you way more current AMC shows than you'd get if VM added AMC.
  • Into the Badlands Amazon Prime
  • Turn Amazon Prime
  • Halt and Catch Fire Amazon Prime
  • Better Call Saul Netflix
Adding Now TV also gives people a fifth one, the Walking dead

I can see BT paying AMC for exclusive rights shortly, if they have not done so already. My first thoughts when I saw the post about Fox leaving BT were about BT nabbing the rights for The Walking Dead from Fox.

As others have stated, I am sure other exclusives will follow when the current deals expire.

They do have exclusive rights. It was BT's response to Sky having excusive rights to HBO.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)

Is this why we aren't having any new channels added?

http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/11...l#post35823732

About 18 months ago, someone from VM said that they might take some low performing channels out of the DVB-C spectrum and put them in as IPTV streams.

Maybe TruTV, YourTV etc weren't prepared to be 'relegated' to IPTV channels on cable??
