Speed - RG12

Hi,
I currently have the 150Mbps service, but I am only getting (at maximum) 60Mbps when i test using speedtest.net connected directly to the router.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

Thanks

There is ongoing utilization (capacity) issues on the Thames Valley network, due to be fixed by end of feb early march hopefully, i have seen this all over the network so your not alone.

I wouldn't word it that way exactly, as utilisation issues are on a node by node basis, not franchise basis. When I was a service tech I worked in Thames Valley quite a lot, there are a lot of nodes there, so just because there are a few nodes with high utilisation it doesn't mean the whole franchise is affected. As an example some of the postcode areas I cover have upwards of 20 nodes.

They are doing a massive upgrade at the headend in reading consisiting of a large amount of building work, the utilization i have seen is in RG42, RG41, RG40, RG10, RG12, RG1, RG2, RG5, RG4, RG30, RG31 ... That is the areas i cover, other techs have seen it elsewhere which is also backed up by networks... so this is a network wide issue in Thames Valley ... my source... The Thames Valley network techs that are working on fixing the issue in Reading

Re: Speed - RG12

My point was its probably not best to put on a public forum all of Reading has problems, as this won't be the case, and somebody could view this and automatically assume they have a fault because of your statement, when they are unaffected by it and have a completely different fault. Postcode (particularly just the first part) will not let a customer know if they are affected by a utilisation issue. They will need to speak to customer services and see if they are connected to an affected node.

Re: Speed - RG12

Yes i understand that, but after VM closing the fault ticket in December and India not letting customers know, then if customers can find out elsewhere it stops me being shouted at on a daily basis when there is nothing that can be done until the upgrade is complete, this has been going on since last summer, they are waiting on the electricians now i believe then they can start to setup the new kit

Re: Speed - RG12

The point I was trying to put across was what you're saying is that the whole of Reading has the issue, where that is very unlikely to be the case, so it would be better for somebody who's thinks they're affected to have it confirmed. I'd imagine the electricians are for the power for E6000s as they draw a fair bit more power I believe. I've only seen a few in action at a different site, only heard good things about them though.

Perhaps that is why my internet is sluggish to load web sites such as the VM home page, I am in the RG41 area.

Hi, Would it be anything to do with the fact that I have the 1st generation of the superhub?

I'm on the same node as Ken_W and for two years at least have always got full speeds, including peak times; maybe slightly lower on Sundays.

It is a VM-Tech says - a node by node thing.

As for Ken_W's page loading sluggishmess, there will likely be a different reason than utilisation across the Reading franchise.

So, in summary, my node in RG41 is fine.

Yes, probably. The Superhub 1 tends to be a wired and wifi fail for a lot of people and if the wind blows the wrong way (when run in router mode) its not the most resilient beasty. Get yourself a SH2ac or SH2.

Or put it into modem mode and get yourself a 3rd party router, then it should be fine.

I still recommend having your own router, regardless of which Hub you have. Even the better superhubs are very limited in their capabilities and I doubt any future hubs are going to change that.

Kush is right. There are no plans to allow any additional router functions.
