I am sure VM stated that it was the broadcasters that were prohibiting the streaming between boxes as the broadcasters wanted the viewers use their catch-up TV services (i.e. iPlayer etc.); it will be interesting to see what happens when SkyQ launches and whether they will be able to stream BBC, ITV etc. freely between boxes.

Re: Networked TiVos - What's The Point?

It seems insane to me that I can watch and record whatever I like on my living room TiVo and I can watch and record whatever I like on my bedroom TiVo but I am not permitted to watch those recordings on the TiVo that is most convenient. It strikes me as a bit like the electricity company telling me what I can and can't use their electricity for and in what rooms. Totally bonkers!

I am sure I won't be the only one watching with interest to see what the forthcoming Sky Q is capable of and what Virgin Media's response to that will be.

If the article below is anything to go by it could be cost that's the most prohibitive factor.

Re: Networked TiVos - What's The Point?

A quick read of this hands-on review of the forthcoming Sky Q box http://www.stuff.tv/sky/sky-q/review indicates that the viewer will be able to watch all of their recordings on other boxes and devices around the home - and even outside the home.

And this is a pretty big family: a main PVR box, a smaller box for use in other rooms, a new app, and even a router that actually sounds quite cool. And it's all underpinned by rather nifty new software that introduces to Sky some of the most requested features, such as your recordings being available across all devices, even outside the home.
It will even have 'suggestions' which I always thought was a TiVo exclusive even if I personally find them pretty useless. Once Virgin Media announce their next-gen box there might be an interesting few months ahead.
