Scrap the apps for faster TiVo speed?

Many people are complaining that the TiVo is now too slow.

Given that there is no cheap or easy solution, I think that the best thing to do would be to scrap the apps.

People primarily get a TiVo to watch & record TV. Since TiVo was launched, there are now many cheap and easy ways to access apps.

I wouldn't bother to specifically buy a TV for the apps as they soon seem to go out of date. Demand 5 has recently stopped working on pre 2015 Samsung TV's (but they hope to restore it soon).

What do you think?

Removing the apps wouldn't make it faster. Removing redundant support software would (and hopefully will).

Re: Scrap the apps for faster TiVo speed?

I voted no as it will NOT make TiVo any faster at all.

Re: Scrap the apps for faster TiVo speed?

I voted for no I believe the apps we have they maybe on the tad bulky but I think that's worth it due to the dedicated broadband connection...

My thinking is that no apps would mean that no support software at all would be needed, meaning that it would go faster (wouldn't it?)

What apps does the TiVo have?

No html 5 apps would mean you'd drag us back ten years in terms of content, data from website gathering actors information, for films and programs

I actually agree the TIVO show/actor info is excellent as are it's other useful features like wishlists etc. I do however agree it needs speeding up which in my opinion will require a new box going forward.

Re: Scrap the apps for faster TiVo speed?

I voted no because I use the apps a lot and although I have other additional means of accessing them now, I think it would be a very detrimental step for the apps to be taken off the Tivo.

As spiderplant has said, it wouldn't make the Tivo go faster anyway, so please leave our apps alone!

Right, having said that, when are we getting Amazon and Now TV?

I honestly haven't got a clue being that I have more than enough bandwidth to go around its not something I've ever thought or worried about , I'm sure it may be a consideration for some.

For me personally it's Virgin's poor On Demand offering and lack of certain channels that keeps me away , shame really as aside from the speed of the box the Tivo has some good features.
