Virgin email service frustration

Some years ago I suffered serious loss of email when pop3/smtp platforms were migrated to new servers. I even started to receive somebody else's emails. It eventually got resolved but some traffic was lost forwever. I continued to use my old ntl address with Thunderbird and a couple of years ago converted to imap/smtp.

Now it will not connect and the virgin team acknowledge the problem but tell me I should really be using a virginmedia email address; I wish to continue to use the original ntl address which is out there with some 1000 plus people and web sites etc. The problem is with the virgin IT team and I was informed this will take 5 working days.

Therefore I have tried to use the new web mail system. Quite frankly it sucks compared to google. I am now receiving loads of spam and real emails seem to be being treated as spam in many cases. As to scrolling down more than a day or two it takes forever.

Totally Frustrated!

Re: Virgin email service frustration

Just spent what seemed like two hours on the phone with Virgin Support having 123Rescue remote access etc and they could not fix the access problem. They will get back to me. I bet they wish original ntl accounts would disappear!

Re: Virgin email service frustration

They will eventually i am guessing, i know you don't want to but you may want to consider migrating to an email that is not related to your ISP as it is the worst possible thing you can do using your ISP, especially if you use it with loads of people and places.

Re: Virgin email service frustration

Eight days off air now and had another good second line person on 123Rescue.com attemting to cure my imap/smtp access last night. He aslo messed with my Virgin web mail access. Now it does not work at all..... said he would get back to me in a few days and was going to ask for a trace to my ntl and virgin media addresses.

Today I call again but failed to access second line as an operator told me that the problem was simply a migration problem. Curiously the press botton 1 etc told me to expect a visit from an engineer. Right old mess and a good job I have a gmail address.

Re: Virgin email service frustration

Appently Virgin had set a dummy virginmedia address and lost all my sent and received traffic for the past few days. Worse still the have lost almost five years of "sent messages" from the web that have also disappeared from my Thunderbird email client. However it now works. I got a good engineer this time who spent 90 minutes accessing my computer.

Now you should ditch your ISP email and move everything over good and proper to something like outlook or gmail in my opinion to avoid this happening again. Also 1 day you may move to a none Virginmedia area then I think you will lose the email also.

Re: Virgin email service frustration

+1 vote for ditching ISP based email. You'll lose a hell of a lot more if you ever leave Virgin.
