There goes another assumption that i would even know how much, some of us do not work in customer facing or sales jobs

Wasn't a dig at all VM staff in general and i understand what you mean it was all speculation until VM officially released something but there has always been that low percent of VM staff who if you look at their posts over numerous forums you'd think they were being paid to defend VM. I have no issues with VM or its staff its just my opinion :-)

Vivid does seem like a strange name to give a set of tiers. Unless they are also going to turn it into something more than just fast broadband?

If these upgrades are to be believed, I will be saving myself a couple of quid and downgrading to 150Mb. Will stay on the top tier if 300 comes off with a bump to UL as that would be a sufficient e-penis booster to justify the extra expense.

I have to agree with this. I think I'll be doing the same. 150 is more than enough, and to pay for extra is just a bit pointless at these speeds.

Easy. People who measure their manhood by their broadband's bandwidth will keep paying more for the top tier, and in many cases use it heavily. Delivering 200Mb costs no more to VM than 150Mb, but usage varies a lot between tiers and that's the rub and where the costs are. People who hammer download and/or upload are expensive, and many of them are on the top tier.
Upgrades are done largely for PR reasons in the UK as Openreach are nowhere to be found as yet. There's little business case in upgrading more than they have to.
EDIT: I note a fair few people who do not care about the e-peen have decided 150 is a better choice for their usage. To me the best way if upset by the upgrade would be to either leave VM entirely, although showing upset about being uplifted from 152Mb to 200Mb by going to 76Mb or less would be a little strange, or as is perhaps more practical for most downgrade.

Yeah, these are "free" upgrades.
That letter you got about your price increase? just a coincidence!

Sorry.......can't resist.
If my manhood was measured against the top BB speed.......there's nothing fast enough in the UK !
I'll be here all week.

Don't be a nub, the price rise would have happened anyway... this time there's an increase in speed too - win win I say.

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Hi guys,
Not been on for a while so hope everyone is well. Just popped by and saw this thread about the speed upgrades. Pretty cool that they are doing 'free' upgrades again and whilst it'll not make much difference to me, an extra 20Mb of bandwidth is a nice little bonus!
Can't help but think VM missed a trick with this one though as obviously their lowest tier is now going to be 70Mb. With all this willy waving going on about them being fastest, I'm surprised that they didn't make the bottom tier either 76Mb or 80Mb so they could advertise that all their speeds are equivalent or higher than BT's (and other ISP's) current top speeds.
I do agree with everyone on here though that with more and more things becoming cloud based, they need to consider a round of upload speed upgrades as its now getting to the point where the vast majority of customers won't care about download speeds getting any faster than they currently are.

Re: Virgin Media 70, 150 & 200 Mb Upgrades
Virgin media's site currently shows SuperFibre 50, Vivid 100 and Vivid 200, no sign of 70Mb or Vivid 150Mb.

MyVM has been updated and says I should expect my 200Mb upgrade by the end of November 2015.

I believe 70 and 150 are for existing customers only (i.e. those getting a free upgrade). New customers get the 50/100/200 tiers.
Just logged into My Virgin Media and apparently we'll get the upgrade by the end of February 2016. Looks like Liverpool is one of those 'rare' areas they can't upgrade this year.

That sounds like a peculiar way to do it, non-standard packages for old customers and other packages for new customers (with exception of 200Mb).

Mine says November 2015 also. I wonder what changes to the local area they're going to make as especially during the summer my connection went south white dramatically during peak times.
