its the lowest tier which sees the lowest increase. i wouldnt believe anything upload related until VM confirm
Another way to look at it:

50Mb to 70Mb = +40%
100Mb to 150Mb = +50%
152Mb to 200Mb = +~32%

Highest paying customers see the smallest relative increase, and get no upload increase.

void due to inconveniences but to play fair do half doubles across the board 75 [+75] 150 [+78] 228 which would be +25 [+25] +50 [+26] +76

Pretty sure doubling 50 and 100 wouldn't have ended up with tiers of 75 and 150, and if you meant the other way tiers haven't been doubles of each other at any point I can remember.

VM customers are the only ones who get free speed upgrades in the UK and yet complain if other tiers are increased by more proportionately than theirs. For those of us on the same speeds for the foreseeable off-net it's kinda funny to watch

I'm more than happy with the bump to 150, though surprised they didn't do 100, 150 and 200 and then advertise the fact their lowest package is a lot faster than Infinity.

Ah, right.

That makes more sense, though I'm not aware this happened with any previous upgrades. The top tier has increased more slowly than the others for the past couple of upgrades.

They probably still can due to FTTC peaking at 76 and averaging considerably less due to distance.

What an excellent idea. Never happen though. Half this forum, MoneySavingExpert, the official forum, etc, would be immediately on the phone to retentions who, if they weren't given codes to discount such a tier, would likely find some other way to apply discounts to the customer's account.

Yeah but as per it's a "free" upgrade brought out at the same time as above inflation price rises... again. We're paying £89pm atm for the 'premier' package (152Mbps net, XL TV, M phone). It's exactly the same as the now-named Big Kahuna, which is £17pm cheaper than we're paying on their site atm.

Confusingly, the My Virgin Media portal offers us the Big Kahuna as an "upgrade" for £93pm (i.e. £4 more than we're paying atm, and £21 more expensive than the front page price).

Time to call retentions I think, as we're well out of contract!

Unless someone proves me wrong, Virgin Media haven't claimed anywhere that the upgrades announced today are 'free'.

I'm mainly bitter about the lack of upload increase on the top tier. 12Mb isn't enough, especially if you actually use it and STM cripples it. Although I'd honestly be happy if I could get more than 10-12Mb from my 152Mb connection at peak times. These upgrades will just make everything worse.

You definitely need to give them a call. I have Big Kahuna (152Mb, TiVo, XL TV, M phone) for £55.99 for 6 months, then £60.99 regular price (12 month contract).

The top tier gets screwed every time. The last 2 times it has been in regard to the % increase on the downstream compared to the lower tiers and this time it is now increase in upstream. It baffles me how somebody can sit there and justify this kind of behaviour/logic. I understand that if they double the speeds (as in the past) or further increase the upstream then that means X amount of extra bandwidth would be needed but if they aren't prepared to do the work for it then they shouldn't do it all, I hate half a job. And thinking about it, wtf was all this 3 upstreams and qam64 about we aren't getting an increase?

Well according to the press release and all the articles quoting VM's PR team, the speed upgrades are 'free' but will be followed by a price rise next month. After all you can opt in to the 'free' upgrade or not, but the price is still rising either way! Ergo, the speed upgrade is being billed as 'free'.

You're being unnecessarily obtuse, as every single news outlet I've seen is reporting this as a free upgrade and VM have happily let it stay that way. The 'PR Team' is quoted in various outlets directly as saying there is no charge for the upgrades. Ars goes as far as to add:

Quote:
Updated: It seems broadband-only prices will increase, but from November 1, a month after the "free" speed bump. Virgin says this is just a normal, annual price hike. One commenter says the price is increasing by £1.75 per month—which, to my eyes, seems to be a fair bit more than inflation...
Let's put it another way. Customer A decides to opt out of the upgrade. His bill will stay the same until the price rise on November 1st. Customer B takes the upgrade, and his bill will stay the same until the same price rise on 1st November. How much extra did Customer B pay for the speed upgrade over Customer A? Nothing. So how is it not a 'free' upgrade?
