been given 8 static IP addresses
I have moved to Unicom after much coercion
I asked for a static IP address to use some security cameras
but they gave me 8 as it worked out cheaper
question is what do I do with all the spare ones?

Re: been given 8 static IP addresses
Why do you need 8, surely 1 is enough?
Of those 8 not all of them will be useable, cannot remember how it works as its not a strong point of mine but I think 5 are useable I think but don't quote me.

Just found what I was after:
An 8 IP block provides 6 usable IP addresses (1 for the router and 5 for servers, PC, etc.)

Re: been given 8 static IP addresses
Use a firewall, add the additional IPs into the config and then route each public IP to do a different local trusted IP on the cams.
Totally pointless for home as you can easily use different ports to do the same on one static.

Re: been given 8 static IP addresses
8 addresses - 6 usable, 1 network and 1 broadcast
Use a DNS service to attach different names to the addresses rather than different ports on the same address but how do you attach the addresses to you public facing device?
You can use virtual interfaces on single hardware port so a server can have multiple IP addresses that go to the same hardware port and the OS has different services on each address

Re: been given 8 static IP addresses
When we got 5 static IPs from VM for our office, we started using just one (via a NAT router to run the business systems), and then added other equipment on the other IPs as needed.
