Re: Broadband Hardware Trial 2015
In fairness, the fact that they're delaying it probably isn't a bad thing. In the past, they've pushed stuff out way before it was ready or suitable and we ended up with things like the Superhub as a result. If delaying by a month or two means we end up with a solid device at the end of it, I for one am happy.

Re: Broadband Hardware Trial 2015
Some information on the new VM/Ziggo/Telenet/UPC Modem. Technical specs to follow in the next few weeks; roll-out by VM by end of this year.

Is this the kit we're likely to trial to replace the SH2?

2 telephone sockets? Is this the VoIP we have been looking for? Are we finally moving away from POTS lines? Would be amazing if line rental was to go too!

Re: Broadband Hardware Trial 2015
Now that's interesting. VoIP as standard, as we suspected. However this stood out for me:
Quote:
During IBC, Broadcom announced the commercial availability of DOCSIS 3.1, quoting Balan Nair, Liberty Global EVP and CTO, saying “DOCSIS 3.1 is making it possible for Liberty Global to deliver enhanced services to consumers later this year.” This could indicate that the new Connect Box includes DOCSIS 3.1.
|
I believe the suggested rollout for DOCSIS3.1 is to start with the CPE and upgrade the network later, so this makes sense. Very exciting and somewhat unexpected.

Ignition has been adamant it's a no, and D3.1 isn't required for anything they're releasing here anytime soon. The VoC capabilities rely on packetcable, not D3.1

I am moving into a new house next month and am contemplating just getting a broadband service only from Virginmedia and using VoIP. Does anyone here have a similar setup?

I was also adamant that it'd be off the shelf kit. I was wrong.

About the off-the-shelf kit, DOCSIS 3.1, or both? Hmm...
