Sort it on the VM forum, less stressful explaining as your SH2 should have been removed from the trial when it ended if I remember.

Re: FAQ on Virgin Media's WiFi Sharing
I've just had an email from Virgin telling me in the Autumn I'm going to get a broadband speed upgrade this Autumn, I'm guessing this will be in preparation for the wi-fi sharing although they're not giving much away.

Unless your email specifically mentioned Public WiFi in the same breath, then no. The speed upgrades are an evolution and nothing to do with the Public WiFi.

Re: FAQ on Virgin Media's WiFi Sharing
SnoopZ's post inspired me to look on the VM forum to see what happened last time. I found the original thread relating to the lack of updates for trial boxes and discovered that last time I did a full factory reset and restore in order to make it pull the update.
So I did a backup, did the reset, then logged back in with the default password (although it also wanted the WPS PIN - I had to crawl behind loads of junk to find that on the bottom of the box).
Then seeing as it was now on V2.01.03 I went into the restore dialog to be faced with:
There didn't seem to be a way to point to the name of the backed up config file, the text box wasn't accepting input and the selection button was absent.
I did another power cycle and tried again with the same result. Eventually I hit refresh in the browser and lo and behold I could choose a file, and all was well. Very odd. It appears to be fine now, but seeing that message gave me an attack of the cold pricklies.

I speculated about this when I got my email, but the addition of WiFi hotspots will actually add very little load to the network. Any upgrade will be to do with raising the down and up speeds.

Re: FAQ on Virgin Media's WiFi Sharing
It's not costing me any more than the price rises I would get anyway, regardless of the broadband size I had, so yes it is 'free'

Think you'll find prices will go up very quickly again in the New Year.
A £2 price rise in Line Rental in February I predict, totally unconnected with the speed increases of course....

Re: FAQ on Virgin Media's WiFi Sharing
Perhaps so, but if the price increase was going to come anyway... at least I'm getting something for it. If it's say £2 as you suggest, I can live with a x2 increase for that amount.

Re: FAQ on Virgin Media's WiFi Sharing
Easy test, if you can get a signal in the next room, it's not a SH1.
