A change in November is more likely to be a software update than a new box.

I've just looked at the Tivo thread from DS and this post from 2011, Tivo was released in 2010

I think the new Tivo box which is smaller and a lot cheaper would be better value anyway. Who the heck wants to pay £149 for a box with a hard drive which can contain hundreds of hours of space? where would anyone get the time to watch all the recorded material anyway?
The new box sounds more realistic and at £50 isn't too bad. As long as it has an ethernet socket for Home Networking though, it will be a good buy.

Pretty sure it was still being tested in 2010 and wasn't made available to existing customers until 2011.
Fairly sure I paid £100 to upgrade in march/April 2011 (an offer that was only made to existing customers).

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2
Initially Tivo cost £150. Later VM reduced it to £99. After a lot of complaints from people who had taken it from launch and paid £150, VM refunded them £50 per Tivo.

Yes, I laughed at that! But I confess to struggling to keep my recordings within the 500 hours limit!

yes I remember the uproar at the time. I wasn't too bothered but was happy to take my £50. Just had it in my head I had to shell out £100 up front.

I can't remember and took the info from here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TiVo#United_Kingdom
It does say VM released it in DEC 2010 which i guess would make strategic sense, enabling people to get one and record all the repeats over christmas
Catchup services were in their infancy back then and i don't think all the terrestrial channels had them?
One of the links from that Wiki page says this, from DS
Quote:
Any customers wanting to get the TiVo service will need to pay £199 (plus a £40 installation charge), along with a £26.50 monthly subscription for the XL package when bundled with a Virgin phone line, or £32.50 without.
|
They must have decided it was too much?

No YourTV licence for Cable and Sky has been seen yet.

It would be a strange decision to leave YourTV off Sky considering Mr Murdoch has an involvement in both.

If I remember correctly, the Tivo's released in December 2010 went to VM employees only. Then in early 2011, selected customers were given a Tivo to trial, before the official release later in 2011 (April?). And initially, after the official release, only existing VM customers could get one. New customers signing up had to wait a while for a Tivo.

As i said i can't remember but it all depends on the accuracy of the wiki page. On there it says the 3rd tuner was activated, i remember a software update, rolling out from the 17th march 2011.
