STV local only covers edinburgh and glasgow, they have no plans to extend this out of these areas. The loss of Scottish Television would be a major blow to the national. STV do make some independent programming separate from ITV. Scotland does have a separate cultural identity and this is reflected in the different schedules here

STV are set to launch the following local channels in Aberdeen, Ayr and Dundee:
-Around Aberdeen
-Ayrshire Today
-View from the Bridges (Dundee)
90% of programming on Channel 3 in Scotland comes from ITV right now.
If ITV did take over an new look Scottish news from ITV will still appear on Channel 3 at 6pm.
STV News will just move to STV Local Channels.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 2
I tweeted AMCUK, about the possibility of the channel coming to VM. My tweet was picked up by VM and I was given this response:
Good afternoon. We're always in talks with channel providers to ensure that we're offering the best line-up of content for our customers. As soon as we have any news, we'll be raving about it on our customer news page ( http://virg.in/custnews ), so watch that space. ^ZR
we can hope.

I think they probably know less than us. Too busy trying to be 'fun' and 'quirky' instead of dealing with customer queries etc. Same as the 12 year old idiots who run most corporate social media sites.

OK, going up to 4 cities and 1 town. Not quite a comprehensive service, is it?

Wow! Sorted! ... long before there's any suggestion of a deal.
The inevitable political fall-out of STV being taken over by "English" ITV would run for years ...

I call STV on Channel 3 - ITV Scotland anyway as 85+% of the lineup comes from ITV anyway.
