Confused about this

Hello all, a bit of a strange question.
I have Virgin and it works fine. The thing is though I haven't got one of those brown box things outside my house like neighbours have.
What I have found in my cellar though is a white box with NTL on it, with 2 wires coming out of it connected by what looks like TV aerial connectors. One of these wires then goes through the stairs and into my living room and then into the Tivo Box.
At the side of this box there another connector, this one is metal with 2 wires with the same connectors.
What I'm wondering is, if there are no visible wires coming into my house, how is the service getting there?
I've checked next doors brown box and there are no wires leading to my property from it.
I just don't want anything illegal to be going on, although I get billed and have an account number.
Any thoughts on this? TIA, WWAS x

Re: Confused about this

It sounds to me as if the buried cable that connects your house to the street cabinet is travelling beneath your garden before entering through your basement wall below ground level.

I can't think of any illegal ruse that might result in the hook up you have described.

The house is on a main road with only the footpath in between. The garden is at the back of the house and the only access is from a right of way along the full terrace of houses (10 terrace houses, ours is at the far end) so it wouldn't be possible for that.
There are no wires or anything coming into the house, and the garden side of it doesn't go into the cellar, the cellar is only half the width of the house.
Thanks for the reply....

Re: Confused about this

I still think that your cable is leaving the underground duct beneath the pavement and just going directly into your basement without coming above ground. It may be, if your house fronts straight onto the street, that it was just easier to run the cable straight in that way. It may even have been done at the time your street was cabled, while they had it dug up anyway.

Actually, that makes sense Chris, as most of the houses have had their cellars blocked off, hence the brown boxes outside going by how you have explained it.
I think there's a metal plate like thing next to the entrance to the house and that maybe something connected as well.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Edited to add:- Also the main junction box in the road is nearly opposite my front door.

Re: Confused about this

Your drop cable just goes into the basement and splits off that way. The brown box is just an external connection box. It's not vital just makes isolating faults to either inside or outside easier during fault finding

Thanks VM Tech. As long as it's ok and legit that's all I'm bothered about.
