Out of that lot number 1 and only number 1. Remove 2, 3 & 4. I'll have a look round in a little while.

I was going to intervene earlier on in the week but as soon as I saw everyone flapping about TP Link and Belkin I decided to stay out of it.

If I was going to spend £50 on a router which the op has intimated then I would buy this one. If I was looking to buy a new router I would realistically expect to pay ~£80 for something decent and would buy this one and if I was starting out from scratch with a new pc and wanted top of the range bees knees then I would have this

Tbh, my pc was new last year along with a lovely new 3D and some other bits and as I extended the wired network around the house I did buy two new routers but for wired and not wireless. As we replace our mobile phones between now and xmas and maybe get other wireless devices I am going to seriously be looking at the last router I just linked to because it looks kick ass.

I am going to forgo my Linksys speech because it is teatime and I am starving and summarise it all by saying you pay for what you get. I have always had Linksys routers and not had a single problem with any of them and I shall continue to keep buying them. It is all about brand loyalty and a manufacturer that cares about what they make and is passionate about the service they provide.

The EA6300 a no go then? It's got to be better than the similarly priced EA2700?

sure, why not? He isn't going to go for it anyway. Thanks for pointing it out though, it is going to be my new favourite router recommendation for everyone. Can't go wrong with an AC Linksys router for £50.

My TP-Link Archer C7 is getting on my nerves as far as WiFi performance goes. I thought a firmware upgrade had resolved the grief, however it appears to simply not deliver.

Think I'll just spunk out on a top of the line piece of kit and be done with it now. Netgear R8000 should work.

I'm actually tempted to get it mate it actually what I'm looking for on my budget just depends if it stays around that when I get paid in 2 weeks time

I hope so for your sake. I love it when you can get great stuff which doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Each one of my Linksys routers has ticked those boxes over the years and until they do something to screw it up I'll continue buying Linksys routers out of brand loyalty. I see too many people come on this forum complaining about wireless speed, wireless range, wan to lan throughput, routers locking up and loads of other stuff (way too many dns issues), all of which can and could be avoided if they just brought a decent router.
The EA6300 does about 800mbits want to lan and then you have got ac wireless as well. I think it will be a perfectly solid router for you with ample future proofing.

I have dug out my trusty network diagram so you can see how important it is to have something which you can rely on and that you know is going to work:

I feel like a right spoon, having just looked at my diagram I have noticed that I have got a 6300 myself. It is setup as a switch and wireless access point atm. I bought it last summer because I needed to use it as a print server because the laser printer I had at the time was usb only but it has since been replaced with a proper network printer. Mine was £75 when I bought it in May last year so I think £50 is a very reasonable price for something which is very very good.

Interesting. Is that performance as in throughput or performance as in range or performance as in reliability? All the reviews I've seen show the "performance" to be above average if not exceptional.

I have no problem with Gen or Linksys, but I'm also not one for brand loyalty. In other words nomatter how much good stuff a company has produced in the past if someone else provides something that is objectively better for less money I'll be over in a microsecond.

Incidentally my router drawer contains three Linksys models, two D-Link models, two Netgear models and three TP-Link models. And a smattering HomeHubs and Superhubs.
