SH2AC slowdown issue.

Hello All,

I've been having this problem for a few months and it is really bugging me. I'm having to reboot my SH2AC that I got as an upgrade from SH1, every day.

It's in modem mode and I use my ASUS RT-AC56U which worked perfectly fine when used with the SH1.

For some reason, after each reboot my connection slows to 50Mb within 12 - 24hrs and sometimes drops below that to <10Mb, I don't think it has anything to do with my ASUS because a reboot of the SH2AC without touching the asus brings the speed back to the full 160/12.

I did have a 6dB wideband attenuator attached to correct power levels, I removed this but my issue still persists, is no better/worse, even with power levels now around 6 - 7dBmV.

Could there be something wrong with my SH2AC?

Last time I got onto VM about it, I got the usual run around, there's no network issues in the area, everything is healthy with the exception of some high utilisation at peak times that does not breach their threshold to raise it.

I know my SNR is a lot lower than it used to be on the downstream, 34 - 35dB when earlier this year it used to be 43 - 44dB - doubt that's the issue but it's odd to me that it dropped so low after being high for years.

Any ideas before I rage and smash the superhub with a big mallet?

Re: SH2AC slowdown issue.

funny you should say that dude because I am having exactly the same problem and I made a similar post last week about it. It may be a coincidence but it only started happening a few weeks since the new firmware came down, I don't know if shub2ac was the same. My speed grinds to a halt, the shub locks up and all the lights stay solid blue, I can't get to the login page and the only thing I can do is reboot it and everything returns to normal. It isn't a power levels issue because mine are pretty much perfect.

Anyone else noticed it?

Re: SH2AC slowdown issue.

Hi General Maximus,

My issue sounds different to yours as my superhub doesn't lock up at all. there has been no new firmware for the SH2AC either, it's still on V1.01.11 which I think has been out since February.

Here is is just earlier after 2 days of uptime:

and after rebooting it:

This is frustratingly infuriating when it happens every day or two.

Re: SH2AC slowdown issue.

it is a shame downstream stm still isn't in operation because it would explain a lot. I was going to say that it could be expected with it being a Saturday evening but mine is ok. If anything I have got the opposite of you with the upstream (one third max speed) but I know it isn't the normal. Last night I was hitting 1.7MB/sec just before I went to zzzzzzz

Re: SH2AC slowdown issue.

I feel it's a mixture of downstream utilisation and also some other issue, my speed is recovering now but that doesn't explain the other slowdown issue I am having where it will stick to <50Mb and sometimes <10Mb indefinitely until I reboot the superhub, that doesn't seem like a downstream utilisation issue to me.

VM's network does seem a lot more shaky in the summer months (had big issues summer last year) but my issue with the weird slowdowns that are corrected by a reboot started long before people broke up for the summer holidays.

Re: SH2AC slowdown issue.

I got a new SH2ac last weekend and it was fine for the first couple of days, nice and fast, then it started to drop the ball so to speak.

Getting the speed via the speedtest.net on VM has never been an issue for me.
However over the last few days, I have been getting random 30 seconds without internet, but the Superhub is not disconnecting and nothing in the log.

Nothing in the house as internet access via VM be it wired or wireless, then 30 seconds later it back and nothing has changed.

Last night, I had this issue, not sure if it was package loss.

But both thinkbroadband and f8lure said I was down.

For some reason the ping is high, it the above one

Then add this, with having to reboot the Tivo boxes, to get the pictures back, we are not overall happy with VM at the moment, but still in contract.

Could the internet issues, be related to the kids being off school, which may cause more internet traffic?

Re: SH2AC slowdown issue.

I don't think so dude, if anything I would expect an improvement without all the uni students being around. If it was a utilisation issue you would expect it to really bad during waking hours but going by the graphs you posted your connection looks very consistent whether it be 3pm or 3am.

My graph isn't the best because of stuff I have running in the background but I have got some red on mine from overnight as well.

I think we on different channels, I am on 61-68 on downstream.
My biggest problem is the random no conenction, I know it only for around 30 seconds but it can be a pain in the rear.

Mine has those blocks when running torrents especially when the upload is starting to max out the link.

Re: SH2AC slowdown issue.

You hit the nail on the head on both counts. It is the stm dropping my upstream to ~500k which causes my upstream to be saturated and the graph to go like that
