50M : Superhub power levels

anyone advice me if my Superhub power levels are OK, as I get frequent connection problems and crap wifi, Are the
Power Level (dBmV) correct for this set-up

I think the biggest problem you have got is that you are using a shub1. You don't see that many complaints on the forum these days because people have moved on but to cut a long story short, the wifi on shub1 just doesn't work. The shub was also plagued with instability issues and prone to random restarts but I thought they were mostly fixed. Before you start wasting time trying to find a cause (other than the shub) for the issue I would strongly suggest you ring tech support and complain about the poor wifi. They might muck about and try changing the channels and all that rubbish but they know it isn't going to work. You need to ask them for a superhub 2 which is far better. Whatever you do don't pay for it. They might want to charge you £6 for p&p but if they try and charge you £50 for it tell them to forget it. You can ring back and select the option for "thinking of leaving us" and this will put you through to retentions. If you explain the problems you are having and that you aren't getting anywhere with tech support, they'll send you a shub2 for free.

Now for secret option no. 2. As good as shub2 is, at the end of the day it is still a sudget isp supplied router designed by VM for the masses. The best thing you can do for yourself is to buy your own router which will be far better in every regard. You can put the shub in modem mode and use your own router to manage your network and handle all your traffic. I have been doing it since day one 15 years ago and never had any probs whatsoever. If you would like some advice on an excellent entry level router I would go for something like this:

You might think £45 is a lot for something which is just going to sit there but you need to put it in perspective. It is going to be in use 24/7 for a long time and is responsible for you going on the internet, playing games, streaming stuff to your tv, wireless printing, wifi for your phones and tablets etc. It is a worthwhile investment for something which I would describe as a core piece of equipment for your house. You wouldn't deliberately go out and buy a pants tv or fridge would you?

The modem clearly rebooted last night at 3am, presumably the T4 is related to that the log is empty.

I have always used the shub in modem mode, usually works fine...

My DS stats aren't far off his:

Upstream's higher though around 49dbmv, one channel on QAM16, the other on QAM64

I ran the SH1 in modem mode from the day I installed it as I already had a router in my network.

General Maximus & Heero yuy thanks fellas for your input, I know the SH1 is crap,and not sure about SH2, I did use for a while a Linksys Wireless G (wireless only) connected to the SH1,for a long time and had no problems with it (signal streanth was far better), so I might go back to that set-up
Its a bad service when VM hound you if you owe them money, but don't give a rat testicles when they give you non working inferior equipment and expect you not to complain GGrrrrrrrr

just bear in mind that if you go back to a wireless g router that absolutely max you are going to get out of it wireless is ~22mbits/sec which is less than half of your internet connection speed. At some point you are going to need to make the jump to something like I have suggested.

General Maximus after writing the last post, I realise that the old Linksys was a G wireless router and not a N class, it took me a while to figure it out as my Note GT N7000 couldnt pick up the signal Daaaaaa thanks for the head up
