Question Please help - New super hub is very unstable and SLOW!

Hi people
Can you help me please!

I have been on 20mb for ages and had a VMNG300 virgin modem connected to a Netgear N900 router.

Wireless to iphone and laptop

Wired ethernet from router to desktop PC.

Had to change packages and part of this was a 50mb upgrade and a new superhub.

It arrived today and something is not right!
Set it up, activated it and enabled modem only mode, these are the problems im having:

1) It keeps rebooting every 3 - 4 minutes and the connection its terribly unstable and slow, painfully slow. This is on the wired connection. It was fine on the old modem and never did this!

2) It does not appear to be able to cope with multiple connection requests from the desktop PC (i.e lots of tabs opened and refreshing at the same time)

3) Turning off modem mode and going back to standard mode improves it slightly but not much.

Can anyone help?

Should I be turning off some settings to get it to stop, are the security settings of this delivery getting in the way of the routers?

Ive only had it a day and its a step backwards from my old equipment and connection at the moment!

Thanks

Superhub in modem mode should behave exactly the same as with the VMNG300. except that with the SH you get 8 downstream channels. Nothing needs turning off before going into modem mode.

So if it doesn't, one of two things will have occurred:

1. The SH you have is faulty;

2. Thee is a circuit impairment.

We can check that for you to some extent if you paste your downstream, upstream and operational config stats.

Superhub is currently in normal mode (with wifi turned off), when I turn on modem mode it goes all funny and starts rebooting itself.

Re: Please help - New super hub is very unstable and SLOW!

Your upstream is above the currently recommended (by VM) power threshold which is 51 dBmv. (Actually if it's stable at 52.5 dBmv and you have 2 upstream channels, then it should work till it hits 54 dBmv).

But that doesn't explain the modem mode aberration unless you've made a booboo. When you switch modem mode on it is supposed to reboot itself. So exactly what happens? Detail is everything.

When I turn modem mode on, the wired connection just keeps loosing connection every minute or so. Turn it off and disable IP Flood detection and its fine.

Its really odd

Is the Netgear Router attached in modem mode?

Nope, none of its settings have been changed from being connected to the old modem

Re: Please help - New super hub is very unstable and SLOW!

Then do attaché the Netgear router which you did indeed have connected to the VMNG300,

Switch off both modem (which now should be in modem mode) & router. Connect router and power up. When the N900 is in a state of grace, power up the SH and await your blue lights.

Let us know how that goes.

Re: Please help - New super hub is very unstable and SLOW!

the shubs firewall is pants anyway so if disabling ip flood detection fixes the problem then leave it that way. My upstream power was 52.x for a very long time and I never had any probs whatsoever with performance or stability.
