Bliar for hire...
Quote:
The scale of Tony Blair’s globe-trotting is exposed for the first time in secret documents that suggest the taxpayer is paying up to £16,000 a week to help the former prime minister build his business empire.
Documents seen by The Telegraph contain details of Mr Blair’s travels around the world, accompanied by a squad of police bodyguards, flying on private jets and staying in five-star hotels.
The files suggest Mr Blair has used identical trips to carry out both private business meetings and talks in his capacity as Quartet Representative to the Middle East – leaving him open to accusations of a potential conflict of interest.

Isn't it about time Blair paid for his own security? It's not as though he's short of a quid or two is it...

All prime ministers whether former or current have security so there is nothing new there.

The arrangements as they stand, have operated on the assumption that the recipient doesn't extract the urine. Overseas trips here and there are fair enough, but Bliar seems to practically live aboard a Lear jet. His security must be costing more than every other living ex-Prime Minister combined.

He's the man Iraqi mothers tell their kids about to scare them into behaving.
"Be good or the Blair will get you!"
He's probably the only person in the world a whole bunch of people would want to personally nuke. If he were out in the middle of a nowhere in a desert that desert would swiftly become radioactive glass.
That would just be what whichever Vanguard class submarine is on patrol at the time would do.

Lapse. How about his security its just cut to the bone like everything else. Why should the man responsible for so much be immune. He can take his chances like everyone else and to quote that guy from rocky iv if he dies he dies

Re: Bliar for hire...
I reckon the security is there to protect him from us more than anyone else.
Anyway, he is clearly entitled to have it provided at our expense but wouldn't it be a nice gesture if he decided he'd cover the cost himself, especially when he's doing business which directly or indirectly benefits Bliar Inc. He could even claim it against tax and save himself a few more quid...
What sort of rabid rantings would we be hearing from the loony left members of the CF cast if Thatcher had been doing likewise I wonder...

Re: Bliar for hire...
A quick Google came up with this. It's a bit out of date but back in 2002 the Telegraph was reporting that securuty for John Major was costing some £1.5million per year - or just under £29k per week.
Cheers

Yes its a bit strange the Daily Telegraph's memory seems to conveniently forgotten that but what else can you expect from the Daily Mail's new rival.
