TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

Today is the day, after years of thinking about leaving Sky I will finally have my three TiVo boxes installed this afternoon.

I'm obviously really looking forward to it but just thought I'd create a thread to see if there's any things I should be looking out for during and after install?

One thing that I have noticed now that the TV Anywhere app is available for Android Lollipop, I can't sign in using my Virgin Media username and password. Will this magically work once the TiVo's are installed?

Another thing I'm really worried about is my internet speed dropping due to the TiVo's drawing an additional 30Mb.

I've also got a Power line adaptor set up in each of the rooms which TiVo will be going, will the VM installer plug these in to the boxes and set up Multi Room Streaming or is it something I'll need to do once he's finished?

The tivo has its own Internet connection so yours will be unaffected

Enjoy

TIVO uses its own internet connection on different frequencies to your main BB connection

The TIVO boxes will have their own co-ax connection to the omnibox. Any internal network you have will be your responsibility to get going.

Any questions and I'm sure peeps here will help.

It'll take 24 hours after TiVo installed for the app to work

TiVo actually uses it's own 10Mbit connection - but this is generally enough for the apps available on it.

That may be a big disappointment for you. I'm not sure what channels allow it as i only ever had one box.

Re: TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

Thanks for all the posts chaps. I'm happy to report that the TiVo's were installed as planned and I'm now a happy Virgin Media customer.... Time to change that profile picture!

I'm sure I'll have a lot more questions over the next few days & weeks but for now I notice that series links default to New & Reruns. Is the EPG data reliable enough for me to change that to New Only?

Some shows can slip through the cracks, but that is not often enough for me to complain about it.

Re: TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

Thanks again guys.

A couole more questions if I may. Is there a way to change the series link default recording options?

Also, the mobile app isn't reflecting the TiVo box names, instead showing only the default box name which makes selecting the box I want to manage much harder. Do I just need to wait a couple of days for the new TiVo box names to appear within the app?

Re: TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

You can change recording defaults at:

Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Recordings > Default Recording Options

When you rename a TiVo, its new name is not immediately available. I think it takes around half an hour.

Re: TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

I believe that TiVo is the default name given to each box. There is an option to change the name for each box, let me check them for you and come back to you.

Ditto for series link, you can change them, press HOME, then Help & Settings, recordings, recording options, and then any series link set after that will carry those options. Series links set before this will need to be changed individually.

---------- Post added at 13:43 ---------- Previous post was at 13:41 ----------

To name your box to what you want, press HOME>Help & Settings>Settings>Devices, and there will be an option to name your box to what you want. It comes with a list of rooms already listed to choose, or you can choose your own name for the box.

Re: TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

Thank you. I've changed the default recording options

I've also renamed the TiVo's and around 4 hours later the app is still showing the default names?

Re: TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

If you don't have the tivo connected to a sound system change the sound output to PCM in the tivo menu or you HD channel sound will be extremely low

Re: TiVo being installed today, what to look out for?

Hope you are enjoying the new Tivos. Having just had Sky installed, I am really missing the functionality of the Tivo box. The Sky box is faster, but boy do I miss Tivo.

Hope you enjoy the new functionality, it's awesome!
