Re: Ireland votes on Gay Marriage
Probably because you could get married at any time, rather than having a lesser choice specially made up for you.....

Re: Ireland votes on Gay Marriage
We never will achieve true equality purely because humans aren't truly equal. There are some things that certain people are better adapted to do, have different views about, different experiences etc. And I don't mean in terms of superiority/inferiority either, some differences ought to be celebrated. But the more we have equality forced on us the worse things can get.

Equality of rights and, where possible, opportunity. Not ability.

Who's forcing it on you? Not as if we want you to get married to a same sex partner
Instead we just want you to stop forcing your values on us

But isn't that the point - equality shouldn't have to be "forced" on anyone - we should all have the same rights and opportunities.
It's not gay marriage - it's just marriage.

Re: Ireland votes on Gay Marriage
I wonder what this means for Catholicism in Ireland in general .The authority of the church has been questioned and changed with this vote ,people who are practicing Catholics have decided that same sex marriage is possible ,an idea that goes against most religious ideals. Will abortion be next ?

Re: Ireland votes on Gay Marriage
Not sure if it is "against" most religious beliefs - a lot of what people believe is by their interpretation*.
For instance, do the 310 mentions of "love" in the Bible outweigh the 6 times homosexuality is mentioned.....
*for instance, I occasionally work on Sundays, but have managed (so far) to avoid being stoned to death...

To be fair it takes an incredible amount of marijuana to get stoned to death.

Re: Ireland votes on Gay Marriage
People conveniently forget the whole 'stoning to death' thing applies to adulterous heterosexuals too but that doesn't make the same emotive headline eh?

But we rarely see that happening, either....

Again, another interpretation - perhaps it was intended for legalisation of Marijuana and Gay marriage to happen at the same time.
If you lay with another man, you should be stoned......

Re: Ireland votes on Gay Marriage
I'm happy about the result, not sure about all the fuss?
I assume that the church, whatever church, is not compelled by this ruling to have to perform the ceremony if it in conflict with their beliefs. I believe that would be wrong.
It's the whole cake debacle recently. Walk into an Islamic bakery and tell them you want a cake depicting the face of the prophet Mohammed, and see how far you get.
Then when you go to the equality commission and complain, see how far you get.
