Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)
I don't know whether this deserves a new thread or not but what do we all think would have happened if ntl and telewest had never combined? We all dreamt of a potential company which could compete with Sky. We have a company which rolls over hoping for scraps from Sky. We are secondary to BT even now and will soon lose our killer attraction to virgin media (free bt sports)
All these failures occurred once the take over with the very suspicious European cable company occurred who I still have suspicions over about their need to sell etc. but since this company utterly failed to take advantage of their position as second biggest TV provider at the time would we all have been in a stronger position staying as ntl and telewest?
Less threatening
More companies for Sky and bt to deal with
The position of "strength" being with virgin media and Liberty has led to higher bills and more channels being withheld. It's done nothing for us all let's be honest

"What have the Romans ever done for us?"
So cast your mind back, Vince. How many channels did you have with Telewest?

I can remember with the old Jerrold analog box on ntl, IIRC 40 channels but those of us with a multiband multistandard TV could tune many directly.

We had one of those, even after the box was removed we could tune lots of channels by connecting the cable to the back.
Highly illegal, but...

Nothing will change for the foreseeable future except for higher bills.

I hope so. I could do with any new channels: those include Fox News and all-you-can-eat +1's and shopping channels (apart from hefty price rises).

VM's killer attraction is its broadband speed which its competitors don't match, not BT Sport. 152Mb may not be necessary for everyone but it's definitely VM's unique feature. Tivo is a unique feature to a lesser extent these days as is VM's quadruple play offering of broadband, telephony, TV and mobile.

BIB
Unless you're in an oversubscribed area, like me, or the plethora of other people who complain about it on the VM forums.

I think this will change in the near future already bt are already testing 300mbs and some companys are testing 1gbs speeds whereas vm are testing 250mbs.
Interestingly to throw another spanner into vms works plusnets tv is only £5p/m ok only 15 channels and no Sky channels at moment but for £3p/m extra you can get HD channels too, they use youview will be interesting to see what happens.

They could be but i've only been told upto 250mbs 1 unnamed company is testing 1gbs down 1gbs up with a potential to increase it to 2.5gbs if tests go well.
250mbs could be VMs nationwide testing and maybe 1gbs, 400mbs in big cities such as London.
