Plus, can you imagine the BBC news website splattered in ads to help pay for it if the licence is abolished .....

Hate paying it the same as everyone, but then I also hate paying road tax !
Yes, let's get rid of that too!

Incidentally, just found the link below regarding the licence fee.

If they were to abolish the licence fee and introduce subscriptions, this would give an incentive to those who do not currently have pay-TV to go for that instead of the BBC. This will help the Sky/VM/BT/Talk Talk coffers.

Maybe that increased revenue would help to pay for some of our missing TV channels.

http://advanced-television.com/2015/...o-be-scrapped/

John Whittingdale, who was this week appointed Culture Secretary, has made no secret of his belief that the licence fee is in need of reform, describing it as “worse than the poll tax”.

Maybe so, but I expect the Sports channels will be next, unless they've worked out that people will cease their high level subscriptions for sport rather than be forced to pay more to get the whole package.

We feel that Nat Geo Wild HD not launching yesterday was down to "technical issues".

The Africa Channel, ITV2 HD, ITV3 HD and ITV4 HD did have some "technical issues" before launching on Virgin Media in the past.

As posted a couple of months ago, when I cancelled SKY Movies with SKY they asked if I'd consider taking movies again if offered on an on demand basis only. So no linear movies channels on my EPG, but access too all the movies through my SKY+ box on demand. I'm pretty sure the suggested price was £10.00 per month.

I've not seen anything anywhere else to back this up so we'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015)

To be honest Chad I wouldn't at all be surprised if we saw the number of Sky Movie linear channels cut in the future.

Sky could easily just keep Sky Premiere and another channel which showcased movies from all the other Sky Movie channels and focus on their On Demand offering it would certainly save massive amounts of money.

They've already announced they'll introduce a live restart function on the Sky Movie channel allowing anyone who comes in part way through a movie the ability to start it over.

Interesting. I wonder if this is all building towards the release of their new PVR?

It'll be offered to Virgin customers too but vm will prob charge £17 and then say it was Skys fault even if it wasn't lol.

So there we have it, the beginning of the end of linear TV, and even ahead of the timescale I had envisaged!

And what's not to like? Movies there when you want to watch them, no pesky ads and cheaper to boot.

Nice to see Sky keeping up, even though this arrangement will bring in less income from the advertisers.

not sure the adverts would be totally going, they will stick them in front of the movie before it starts, and will prevent you fast forwarding them in the same way 4oD and ITV does on their smartphone apps

No sign of this happening yet, though...

Well, Sky seem to have got the message and I thought they would be one of the last broadcasters to admit defeat, given advertisement saturation on their channels.
