Looking to return!
Moved back to Sky mainly due to cost ; big mistake!
Was due to recontract with Sky for my telly and they totally mis-sold my package ; telling me there was a price increase after everything was all confirmed and then telling me there was no cooling off period either.
I should never have moved away, year of an absolute nightmare with these guys really!
What's the TiVo service like these days?

Re: Looking to return!
As a person who after many years was a V+ and then finally took the plunge and got TiVo (mainly because it was cheaper the package) I will have an attempt to answer.
Navigation took a little time to get use to but on the whole quite intuitive, picture is clean and the added tuner is useful. Series link and recording suggestion also has been a welcome addition along with ability to record based on keywords.
Apps and BBC I player are generally a miss but that's my own opinion; more of a gimmick then a must have no doubt if I didn't have alternative means to stream I player I would use TIVO and be able to give a full impression. I tried it once in January but it buffered so I abandoned, likewise searching on sky movies is a bit ancient and therefore just use the sky movies app on iTunes but that is horses for courses.
Spacewise 1 GB is plenty and the added benefit if you are sky movies customer sky movies are in Hd for TIVO; I usualy search on app and then watch via TiVo and this works fine.
The only grip I miss is the out and out reminders feature from V+ and the closest we have in TiVo is remind and record which is a little pants. Does the job but then end up deleting which to me is stupid; yes it's a whole new way of watching but I just want it to be simple where I chosen something to watch in hour time and I want it to automatically change channel in an hour. Simple on V+ but not available on TiVo
So in conclusion, good box, in my utopian world I would have V+ simplicity with HD movies and larger disc space but I have TiVo and pretty content with it

I think the TiVo is all right, actually. There have been problems with the BBC I-player but they seem to have been resolved with the new version. Netflix is very good. Just takes a little while to load.
All in all, I am very satisfied with the TiVo and look forward to getting more apps on it such as Amazon Instant!

Indeed, i'm not sure the update sorted the iPlayer problems at all, according to the official VM forums.
My new Humax is blistering compared to the Tivo.
As i said in another thread i wonder if the new software is getting beyond the capability of the hardware inside the box.

My thoughts entirely, the so called "update" turned into a colour change to the menu, thanks guys...

Yes Amazon Instant and Now TV would both be nice in a ideal world.

Rumours abound that a new enhanced TiVo could be coming soon to this country.

Re: Looking to return!
cant understand whys there's no cooling off period all contracts have one.
as for TiVo Slow too many sub menus to navigate iplayer alltough better takes a while to get going 30sec just to goto iplayer.
to be honest for the lil extra your paying sky id stay with em the experience would be much better ie box sets catch up films ect ect and im sure I read somewhere sky have a new box on the way that rivals TiVo.

Totally agree - I soon realised that TiVo was a different beast entirely to V+, and it took some getting used to. Once the learning curve was done, there's no going back.
I was affected by broadband utilisation on the TiVo modem until only a couple of months ago, and it was only between that and the release of the new app would I say the iPlayer service has become a usable substitute for recordings. All that's missing now, is the TiVo search reflecting the improved 30day availability of iPlayer content - which I understand is due imminently.

I had a suspicion when upgrading that 500Gb wouldn't have been enough, and that has been repeatedly confirmed. If it's going away for more than a week and/or recording a lot more stuff in HD then the 1Tb would be essential to be honest.

Well yes.. but I've read the explanation for why this is, on the official-VM site and it makes sense. So if that's the way it has to be, then so be it.

I haven't seen the official explanation, I'm sure there is one, whatever the reason is I still miss it

Re: Looking to return!
Essentially because TiVo doesn't have any tuners that are reserved for live-TV, all 3 recorders can be used to record... there needs to be a tuner "reserved" to manage the reminder.

Re: Looking to return!
Thanks for the link; would happily sacrifice a tuner for the reminder but I would guess I'm in the minority
