Blank screen when coming off standby mode

Hi guys, I've noticed a little problem with my Tivo in the last couple of days.

When coming out of standby mode, the Tivo plays the sound and displays a black screen (no menus or video). The only solution appears to be switch off and on again.

The system has been working fine for years, and I have changed nothing (apart from the router attached to the Superhub), so I am a little confused, unless the box is on the way out. I did think it might be a cabling problem (I have a two year old who loves to go behind the telly if he can, and loves playing with cables), but I am using HDMI. Unless the cable has gone bad, I would have thought any HDMI problems would stop the sound as well.

Before I call customer services, does anyone have any ideas?

Switch what off and on again? And how (mains or standby)?

There a few things that may resolve this - power cycle TV; power cycle TiVo; reseat HDMI cable at both ends.

If still no joy, try changing the order that you put things in and out of standby. HDMI is weird and wonderful.

Sorry, should have been clearer.. I meant switching the Tivo off using the switch at the back.

Re: Blank screen when coming off standby mode

I do not think it is your little child, as I also hve been experiencing the same problem when coming out of standby recently I find that changing changing channels rectifies the problem or going into a recorded programme in My Show then returning ti live TV.
How my wife will manage when I'm not around I dread to think.

So do none of the other things I've suggested work?

I've had the same thing happen. If my TIVO box is on but ive switched my tv off, more often that not when i turn my tv back on there is no singal on my HDMI channel. I have to switch the TIVO box off and on again with the remote I.E i switch the TIVO to standby and bakc on and it comes back.

Re: Blank screen when coming off standby mode

I sometimes turn the TV on and it says no signal even though the TiVo is on, turning the TV off and on again fixes it. Wouldn't want to have to wait for the TiVo to reboot every time it happened though

One more thing I forgot earlier - make sure your TV firmware is up to date
