A Friends abysmal speeds
Hi
Been out to a friends house who was complaining about the internet. Cab is next to his garden wall so as close as you can get.
Running a SH2 in modem mode attached to a DLink wireless router.
These speeds are the best he can get either straight to the SH2 or via cable to DLink.
Managed to get 4098kbs download and 2980kbs uploads so roughly 4Mb down and nearly 3Mb up. He's supposed to be on 'up to' 60Mbs XL BB

Re: A Friends abysmal speeds
His upload is correct, obviously his download is not. Have you tested different machines, or just the one?

Re: A Friends abysmal speeds
What are you using to test the speed?
Is there any packet loss? High latency? etc?
The signal readings you've listed are OK. Not perfect but shouldn't be causing major issues.

Re: A Friends abysmal speeds
Just his PC Kushan- Cat5 into NIC running at 100.
Tried a few qas - Speedtest.net (not always great), bt wholesale, Broadbandspeedchecker, speedtest.bbmax.
I appreciate it was 8:30 at night but it's not great even for that time.

It could be congestion, but it'd be worth trying on another machine just to see if it's something local. Even a quick wireless test with a phone might give a hint, albeit not ideal.

Re: A Friends abysmal speeds
I might try a multi-stream download speedtest site just to be sure. I think most of the others just use a single stream.
Thanks for your help all anyway.

Re: A Friends abysmal speeds
Does he have these speeds all the time or just at night?
I'm on 'up to' 50Mb but it regularly falls over in the evening and trying to stream anything is really infuriating, ping goes up to +200 as well.

Speedtest.net uses 4 streams, Thinkbroadband uses 6.
As Kushan suggested, if it's congestion it will vary by time of day but affect all devices.
