I think consumers in the UK should be able to have the choice:

Pay Sky for their services and HBO content on Atantic for X amount per month
or
Pay HBO Now for $15/£10 a month for HBO content.

The Sky deal should only limit what other broadcasters (VM, BT, Talk Talk) can show, but I bet Sky will have some sort of say...

No it's not a way around Sky's exclusive deal. The only way for HBO Now to happen in the UK within the next five years is for Sky and HBO to do a deal. Personally, I can't see why this isn't possible.

I also read that too. It wouldn't just be limited to TV shows, but also movies would be there.

you could have argued the same about the wwe network in the uk. wwe and sky signed a new contract to provide wwe programming to sky sports. they've managed to get around it by and still releasing a full version of wwe network to the united kingdom (finally)

new shows are delayed (ie raw/smackdown weekly shows by 4 weeks) maybe HBO can get around the exclusive sky deal by doing something like that??

Sky still get the exclusive programming but the HBO go app can show shows after a certain period??

I have no idea but its just a theory ill throw out there!

I'm not going to pretend I know anything legally about these types of deals, but I kind of thought that HBO content in the UK could only be shown via Sky...but if the content is coming from HBO itself, wouldn't this mean something else?

Ahh I don't know...most of these questions are rhetorical, so if you think I'm being an idiot, I don't mind if everyone ignores me instead of slating me lol

That's not the way it would be done; Sky have paid for that exclusivity and it is a done deal.

What I think could be done in the UK, is HBO Now launching as an added subscription option on Now TV. Those who want full blown 'all access' could take that option. Those who are happy with limited catchup time frames could stick with the Entertainment pack. Similar situations occur with Hulu, which only has the last five episodes and Hulu Plus, which has back seasons. It's the same with CBS catchup and CBS All Access.

There are several permutations as to how this could work; even removing HBO content from the Entertainment pack? I'm sure that cleverer people than I could work something out.

The difficulty would be how Sky and HBO would sort out the financial side. But without Sky's cooperation, HBO Now is a non runner in the UK until after 2020.

HBO Nordic has , beside HBO content, Cinemax films (part of HBO) and content from Starz, Showtime, Sundance etc.

Media Boy HQ's DNP orders has now been cut to 2.

We seen rumours about Universal Movie Channel months ago.

No Virgin Sources can confirmed if UMC is coming or not.

But when we did hear about it we was thinking about Universal Movie Channel just being an rebrand of Movies 24.

With Picturebox closing in April - this was also owned by Universal, I just found this out. "Virgin Media and Universal Pictures today announce the launch of PictureBox, the leading movies-on-demand TV subscription service, on Virgin Medias TV platform."

Will the Universal Movie Channel be a non-subcription linear channel?
It wouldn't make sense to have another subcription based movie selection when Picturebox hasn't done too well.

So Picturebox what shows old movies and is owned by Universal is closing and Universal is opening a new service ? What exactly are they going to be showing on that ?

Can't see it personally.

Sky has all the subscription tv rights to Universal's new films, so any new/rebranded Universal film channel would only be able to show older films.

Exactly so what would be the point ? It would just be similar to the current Picturebox offering.
