VM may actually want Viacom to pay for them to be on its platform.

It's true that some channels actually pay to be on the VM platform, but from what I was last told about this (which was some years ago- so things may have changed) this isn't the case with the Viacom channels.

Just found out that a new channel called 'Red Bull' from the energy drink manufacturer of the same name starts in April 2016.
It has not yet been decided if this will be carried by VM as carriage agreement talks have yet to commence. I'll post more info. if I get any

Would not surprise me, they have an extensive VOD and apps and sponsor/own a variety of sports in their portfolio, some of which like red bull air racing they already broadcasts live. I think they are already on Apple tv so they could, dare I say (ahem old boy ) move to a linear tv approach and broadcast on suppliers

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1
Yes, it's definitely a linear channel that's coming.
Some programmes will be done in house and some will be bought in. I first heard about this in 2014 and it was at the time mooted as a reality television channel. From what I was told today, it seems to have diversified as music, gaming, sports etc were mentioned.

Cheers. I wasn't aware that a Red Bull existed in the states, nor that it would be replacing CBS Reality. Maybe that's where the erroneous idea that it would be a soley reality TV type channel came from??

CBS Reality is not closing. On the Sky EPG CBS Reality has 2 slots on the EPG showing the same programmes (channel 146 and 198)at the same times apart from teleshopping. I would imagine it is this extra slot (Channel 198) that is being changed to Red Bull TV.

Thanks for clearing that up. Sounds like the second part time stream was simply a holding channel to ensure an SD EPG slot. AFAIK they have to show a min of two hours programming to keep the EPG slot and have obviously used Teleshopping to recoup some of their costs of doing this.

Spike was supposed to launch in place of Viva in quarter 1 of 2015. Does anyone know if a launch date has been confirmed yet?

Yes, that would not surprise me either, although you know my view, that the days of linear TV are limited!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1
I wonder if the recent calls for energy drinks to be restricted to adults only because of the high sugar content will have any affect on the plans to create Red Bull TV?
I'm sure, at least in part, that this channel is intended to be a promotional vehicle for Red Bull.
Would they be allowed to encourage young people to drink their product??
Will this negative publicity prompt them to get the channel on air earlier than planned??
I've also found this. I'm not sure why a cable site is concerned with Sky channels, but this article states that carriage on Sky has been finalised. As this will be a FTA channel and they appear to have an EPG slot in readiness, I doubt Sky have had much, if any, involvement!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2015) Vol. 1
The last launch date i heard for Spike was July so still a while off yet.
As for TV Land launching in the UK it is not going to happen at the expense of 5 USA or 5*. Both channels have brand recognition in the UK and TV Land does not. Viacom are not stupid they will not pay such a huge amount to but Channel 5 in order to slice its value by changing the name on some of its assets. If they wanted to launch TV Land they would have just bought EPG slots, it would have been a whole lot cheaper.
I think 5* means a lot more to people than Viva does which is evidenced by the fact that Viva is likely to close to completely change its remit back to music. As for Spike i think you would be surprised how well known the brand is over here. TNA Westling was on Spike for a long time, and before that WWE. Gamers know the Spike Videogame awards, and shows such as Bar Rescue and Auction Hunters have aired in the uk.
