I wondered if LibertyGlobal would just milk Virgin Media when they bought it. However, I've been pleasantly surprised to see this has not been the case and they're investing in areas like network expansion, buying Smallworld and getting the remaining Sky Sports channels in HD.
I think all telecoms providers have been guilty of above-inflation price rises but someone needs to keep those footballers in the style to which they are accustomed and a bit more as well!

We have an older Samsung in a bedroom what still seems to get app updates however I take your point , for me personally though the STB's are just too slow when using streaming services , my YV box whilst acceptable is considerably slower to load and navigate. At the end of the day all devices will become obsolete at some point however I agree with a streaming box your losing far less than a TV.
Vestel and Panasonic will be producing FreeviewPlay Smart TVs and Sony will be producing YouView TVs. These platforms should stay the course of time. However, that's not to say that the TVs themselves won't end up being relatively slow in the way that you've found with YouView.

At least with TiVo (and other add on boxes) it's easier to update them to ensure you still have access to the apps
But you have to have access to the apps in the first place... I have Netflix, Amazon in 4k and I have just downloaded and installed to my samsung TV m:go which is also a 4k service, so you can add new apps, you can update them, Samsung will even trust you to run your own developed apps on their tv's, let me see you update your TiVo to run hevc...

Did Anyone Notice that the BBC iPlayer app has changed on Tivo?

Not at all; it's a valid point.

My bedroom TV is nearly seven years old and the lounge one nearly five. But they were very well regarded at the time of purchase, and still produce a good picture now. I see no point in upgrading them, as the only significant gain would be smart functions, that I can get with a couple of extra boxes totalling £75. Of course, if I had oodles of spare cash, I may think differently

But aren't 4K TV's the only way you can currently get Amazon and Netflix in 4K?

Why just pick on Tivo? What about all the other devices that can stream Netflix/Amazon? They will need new boxes to do 4K.

Premier Sports?? They have basically given up on hoping to make much out of advertising revenue by the cessation of BARB reporting. I can't see them having that many subscribers from what i've read; maybe they've done a deal with VM to let all XL customers have it ;-)

YouView is to be enhanced and rebranded; i'm not sure if this will improve this or not.

I think you mean that NowTV is being rebranded and will have a new box this year? YouView like Tivo and Sky is continuously improved anyway.

I can't really see Premier Sports being in XL. I think BT Sport will stay there. But if not, I could see Virgin providing its own Netflix-style service as UPC has done in Europe.

I don't think Premier sport will be around much longer.

Is this inside knowledge? Or do you think they are rebranding to Setanta instead? They are launching in HD in the Summer on the Sky and possibly other platforms and have just re-signed Nascar.

From what i've read on the internet, those into sport don't seem to like or subscribe to this channel. They've stopped BARB reporting, so they can't be doing anything advertising wise, so I do tend to agree with you.

But then there's this to consider from Andrew, so maybe they have enough subscribers to make the operation worthwhile after all.

They've been saying they're launching in HD for the last 2 years mate, it's just a feeling i have that Premier sports may not survive much longer.

So if the dnp is in the "satisfying" rather than "blow your socks off" category it's obviously not Atlantic, but is probably History and Universal in hd.
