Absolute rubbish. Commercial channels cost you more than the licence fee.

In addition, have a think about all the commercial channels that rely on BBC programming.

Both. They have to pay for the material, but without the quality BBC programming being produced in the first place they'd be stuck. All profits from this get ploughed back into making new programmes to help keep the licence fee down.

You could say it's the other way around too commercial channels make programming for BBC.

Anyway back on topic more international channels are due to launch very soon, no date given yet.
Also i may have a surprise for you all i'm just waiting for conformation on a rumour it's regarding a new movie channel it's all i can say at moment.

Does anyone have any news about when the updated BBC iPlayer is coming to TiVo? The one available via smart TVs is way better than the current one available via the red button.

It sounds to me as if it's upsetting you because it's not producing 'Andy_m service broadcasting'

I myself watch proportionately little from the BBC, but I believe it is important because it is public service broadcasting; it caters for a wider range of programming, which will often include minority viewership. These programmes wouldn't stand a chance in a commercially based system. Take a lesson from US TV, where critically acclaimed shows are cancelled because they don't bring in the viewing figures to satisfy the advertisers.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is a great show to demonstrate this. The show's story lines demonstrate how viewership figures drive the networks decisions, and the show itself was a victim of the system; it was critically acclaimed but cancelled because the audience wasn't large enough for the advertisers.

I don't understand the distinction you make.

Clearly, the BBC Trust could make this decision, but I think it is unlikely.

Whilst it is Parliament that will decide what happens, it is the Government that will determine it because it has a majority.

Yes, I saw it when it was first broadcast and recently bought the DVD (withdrawal symptoms after the last ever episode of The Newsroom was broadcast )

Nah I don't think it will either, that was the biggest thing I could think of at the time of writing.

I'm not sure what else VM have up their sleeves that would have a DNP in place.
