We should be able to vote for the one person we feel will work for the constituency.Sadly the majority just toe the party line, lie and promise anything and frequently don't actually live in the constituency they want to represent. Some even barely make it beyond a couple of hours attendance in the House of Commons.Just long enough to get paid.
Kind of makes it difficult to assess who is the best candidate..So most are stuck with the above suggestions..

Re: UKIP - "We've been lying"
Wait ... so a party leader admitted to not exactly telling the truth .. as opposed to all the rest who do exactly the same, but dont admit it ?

Well he admitted it in private. Anyway I don't think the shock is it he lied it's that he positions himself as the straight talking honest politician and he isn't.

This is my favorite part:
Quote:
UKIP deputy chairman Neil Hamilton – the disgraced ex-Tory MP – warned colleagues: “This is the last time we can get away with this.
“We can say anything on the doorstep.
“But on television we will have some pretty searching questions to answer.”

Slight difference in that UKIP had previously fooled a lot of people with their claims of being clean, honest and "anti-political".

Re: UKIP - "We've been lying"
UKIP and Farage are clearly such a political irrelevance that we keep getting threads about them and the main party leaders never waste an opportunity to insult something or other they've said or done.
It's almost as if the main parties don't think we're capable of judging whether UKIP's policies and promises are realistic or not. Wonder if they've ever considered that their own track records are such that even Farage appears a more attractive option.

Quite right Maggy, they should all be independent.

Exactly my way of thinking. I'm sick and tired of the present washed up bunch of liars and rogues.

Re: UKIP - "We've been lying"
The "main" parties know that the electorate will just seesaw back and forth over the years as there was no real viable alternative. UKIP is making them think a bit differently because they are gaining popular votes around the country, derailing the Gravy Train that career politicians rely on.
After all, the main purpose of any politician is to get elected. After that, Party politics mean they don't have to stick to any pre-election promises at all.

I think they're joining the gravy train rather than derailing it.

You might not have a good feeling leaving the polling station Bill, I didn't last time and I've voted for them in protest for years, never again though, I'm voting green this time round and will be for the foreseeable future

I very much doubt they fooled anyone.
I think everyone sees UKIP for what and who they are, and that's the best bit, because people still vote for them. No matter what the main three parties say.
Because those people are sick of what the main three parties say, and do - because they do sod all.

The main parties are constrained by the fact they'll actually have the chance to govern. It's much easier to pander to the gallery when your plans to make everything better will never have to face the realities of governance and budgets.
Besides I don't think people can legitimately claim to be offended of the behaviour of the main parties when the same behaviour is excused from UKIP.
