Re: Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's

Due to severe food alergies I breast fed our son until he was very nerly two years old and never had a problem when feeding him in pulic. I would breast feed him where ever I was but did so discreetly, anyone looking on would have been hard pressed to see anything other than me apparently cuddling my child.

I find it very saddening that such a natural act has been tainted by some peoples inability to seperate their sexual reactions and unrestrained fantasys from the reality of a breast being used for the purpose it evolved for in the first place.

To ask a woman was is discreetly breast feeding to cover up with what amounts to a flag proclaiming " look at me I'm breast feeding and ashamed" is the height of crassness in my opinion and deserves all the protests and publicity it has garnered.

Sadly some people in this country are still stuck in the dark ages with their attitudes even though its 2014.

Personally I believe all babies should be banned from restaurants (evening), I am not talking about a wetherspoons etc in the afternoon.

The argument could be that women do a lot of things to do with being a woman. but they don't do those in public.

Re: Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's

It could be, but that would be a very weak argument put forward as justification for a faux pas by the hotel....

Re: Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's

I see the argument that it's private property and the hotel should have the decision about what can and can't be done on their property.

That they are idiots, however, is beyond argument.

Such as putting up signs saying "no blacks or Irish" perhaps? Or refusing to provide a disabled toilet due to the additional expense? Or refusing to host wedding receptions for same sex couples?

The list of ways in which the state dictates what goes on within a private establishment, when that establishment is selling services to the public, is a very long one indeed.

You are right - some of the responses are pathetic.....
Clearly they weren't before or after, she was in tears and very upset apparently, not emotional enough to reenact it over and.over again though or bang on about it on what ever show will have her. The whole thing reeks of set up to me. She's lucky they let her in anyway, if I was paying £75+ for a slice of cake and a triangular shaped sandwich I wouldn't be very happy to listen to a baby grizzle all the way through it, perhaps a lower age limit barring none resident children will be their solution, that's if they have taken any notice at all.

Re: Mums Stage Breastfeeding Protest At Claridge's

When I was a lad..... it was common practice for women to drape a shawl over the area whilst breastfeeding in public. Mind you it was also common practice for all women to keep their breasts covered.

Do you have a link to where she states she was in tears and very upset - all I can find is the BBC story which states she felt humiliated.

Well the cafe owner is a tit, as getting breasts out in public is not indecent exposure.
