Real life isn't Hollywood, it can take a LOT of shots to stop someone.

Mainly because it's very difficult to do - people have been shot in the arm or leg, and they keep on attacking.

Most weapons training focus on two shots to the main body mass (the chest), which tends to stop most people.

I know, I was trying (and clearly failing ) to make that very point.

We hear all the time that all these people are rioting about x, y or z but if they were interested in the plight of the victims and bereaved, the last thing they'd be doing is turning a solemn protest into a theft fest.

We all know that a large proportion of those involved in this sort of thing are the sort of people who'd exploit any suitable set of circumstances to steal stuff. They're ****. Plain and simple.

Considering the amount of adrenaline coursing through the cop it's not particularly surprising there were multiple shots with some missing.

He was cleared by a Grand Jury that presided over many witness statements.

The unarmed man in question had just robbed a shop and then got into a physical tussle with the policeman.

Apparently both fighting for control of the gun.

Some 12 were fired during the incident.

Of course the black community were outraged by this. Conveniently ignoring the hundreds of black youths killed by other black youths every month

That's one thing that is worth highlighting. The jury saw a lot of evidence, and heard a lot of witness statements.. They found there was no case to answer.

The facts: Media reports say that Officer Marc Catron of the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department apparently shared an image on his Facebook page of someone he and others thought was Brown. It is not known who originated the item.

The caption: “I’m sure young Michael Brown is innocent and just misunderstood. I’m sure he is a pillar of the Ferguson community.”

Many people who saw various posts believed the photo was of Brown and passed it along via Facebook and Twitter.

The problem is that the photo is not of Brown. The picture actually shows murder suspect Joda Cain, who is accused of using a sledgehammer to kill his great-grandmother in Oregon last year, the Oregonian newspaper reported. The other youth in the photo has been identified as Micus Ward, accused of being Cain’s accomplice.

Daniel Pantaleo, the Staten Island NYPD officer who killed Eric Garner with a chokehold in July, will not face charges for the killing, a grand jury reportedly decided today. Garner, who was asthmatic, pled with police about his inability to breathe several times during the struggle that led to his death.

The NYPD's own patrol guide explicitly prohibits chokeholds, and the death was ruled a homicide by the New York City medical examiner in August. Pantaleo was the target of two previous civil suits before Garner's death.

Garner, a father of six, was was accused of illegally selling loose cigarettes. NY1, the New York Daily News, and CNN reported the Staten Island grand jury's decision today.

When the officers attempt to handcuff him, Garner asks them not to touch him, and one puts him in a chokehold. He didn't really manage it 8 times, as 4 shots hit the guy's right arm.

Mr. Brown, 18, was also shot four times in the right arm, he said, adding that all the bullets were fired into his front.

I think we're guilty of judging US cops by our own standards TBH. Call them trigger happy if you like but then then America is home to a great many people who routinely carry and are prepared to use weapons in circumstances which would never (or rarely) happen here. In an environment like that sadly things like this are always going to happen - welcome to the land of the free and the home of the brave...
