Sound loss on SD channels
Strange one this.
Turned TV on last night about 6.00pm
Strange screeching noise or no sound at all on all SD chanels.
HD working fine, Dolby sound OK
Same problem this morning, so rebooted, which took an age, and lo and behold all SD chanels now OK
Mystified! Any ideas guys ???

Re: Sound loss on SD channels
Is it a Cisco or Samsung box? And what make and model TV do you have?
If it happens again, can you go to System Info->System Info, and see what "HDMI Status" says.
Turn the TV off and on - does this get the sound back?
If not, unplug and reconnect the HDMI lead - does this get the sound back?
If still no sound, just reboot as you did before.
Then please post back your findings.

Re: Sound loss on SD channels
Hi Spiderplant
I've got a Panasonic P50-VT30B plasma TV, running through a Pioneer VSX-2021-K amp.
All connected by HDMI.
Not sure about the box....
Thanks for your reply.

Re: Sound loss on SD channels
Ah, interesting; the amp may be a factor here. But don't change anything for now. I want to know if it happens again.
The top cover of the Tivo says who made it. If you can't see the top, Cisco boxes have rectangular LEDs on the front panel and Samsung have round ones.

Re: Sound loss on SD channels
I had a similar thing happen 2 nights ago.
Screeching sound and when I changed the channel no sound at all. Changed back again and it was back to normal.
I have a pioneer VSX-527 home cinema app. TiVo connected by HDMI.

Re: Sound loss on SD channels
One odd thing, on one programme in particular - either Neighbours or Home and Away, it always drops the sound for a couple of seconds in the Aldi advert - if it's an error in the regional/national switching, it's been there a long time.

It could be in the regional/national switching, but the splices between the adverts themselves can also be troublesome. I once spent many hours watching an advert for the The Sun that would cause loss of sound ocasionally (I can still hear in it my head).
I'll see if I can capture this one, but it might be unique to your region.
