HD projectors

Anyone got one, and are they worth it?

I would dearly love to watch all my blurays on a BIG screen, got a spare room that could quite easily become a cinema room. Does anyone have a projector that produces good images? Not bothered about 3D, just a decent crisp, true colour image. Anything from 5 feet upwards. Also, do you really need a special screen, or could you just paint a wall white?

Thanks.

Re: HD projectors

Not got one, but I really want one.

I think most of the newer models are 3D ready anyway.

Picture quality on some of the 1080p DLP models is fantastic.

LOL, thanks Stephen. Not exactly a helpful post but....... never mind! Just ordered a BenQ TW523P from Amazon. Gawd knows what it will be like but 3/4 of a bottle of red wine and a new 15 month interest free credit card will sway even the most steadfast of women! (...........hic)

Re: HD projectors

BenQ do make really good projectors. The screens do a good job but it will still look great on a wall. either white or even magnolia :-)

Re: HD projectors

That projector looks fairly low-end and I hope you didn't pay more than £300 for it. Price isn't everything though, I had a £1400 HD projector seven years ago, and turned out to be ***** due to the environment. If you ask me quality is as much about the environment as it is the projector itself.

A blacked out room, decent screen surface, and dark coloured wall paint will make a bigger difference than even the best projector pointed at a random white wall in a white room.

Thanks. It was just over 300 quid, pretty cheap but I didn't want to spend any more as this is my first foray in the world of projectors. If it's truly rubbish, I may return it and get a more expensive one once I know my room set up will be adequate.
