Virgin Media sources has told Media Boy HQ today that Virgin will begin installing a soft launch of a new firmware update to the TiVo boxes.
The update will change the look of the user interface, improve the start up time and offer other small changes/improvements.
To get an idea of the new look if you go to virginmedia.com the colour scheme is the same with the purple background, white text and the new red Virgin Media logo.
A few regions will get it on Tuesday with the majority of the boxes to be updated by October 28th.

If this is and I so hope it is, the Haxe / death of Flash update that Todd Kulick Vice President of Technology and Principal Engineer at TiVo Inc. is talking about then there's a whole lot more going on than small changes. Check out his WWX2014 speech (link below). A possibility of a 30% speed increase even for legacy box's like the Premier which Virgin's TiVo is based on, is just one of the developments that makes me extremely happy.
http://youtu.be/P8BpZagb6qE
It's an hour long, Tod Kulic is no Steve Jobs and it's a geeky tech conference where a lot of what is said flies straight over my head but I couldn't stop watching.

Hey I'm just waiting for my TiVo. It's out for delivery!
BTW what do VM do with the old V+ boxes? Do they collect them?
Back to topic, will the local TV stations ever have their areas of viewing expanded? It would be good to see some of the local content.

You'll get a label and packaging stuff in your tivo box kit so you can drop your old box off at a collect+ point.
I had to do this when i got rid of the tv and had to return the tivo.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 3

Today, Virgin Media has unveiled a significant update to the UKs largest connected TV platform, with a new look on its way for our 2.3 million plus Virgin Media TiVo customers.
The visual style reflects our new brand identity but also introduces HTML 5, with a higher definition interface that paves the way for better access for app developers. For example, we’re working with Opera to bring its app store to TiVo – more details will follow once the rollout is complete.
Does anyone know if opera is good when comes to apps also would they have WWE network has a apps thanks

I'm struggling to find a comprehensive list of apps on Opera TV.
I did come across this article which is on RCN Tivo boxes, it was 7 months ago so you'd expect it to have grown by now.
