Replacing SuperHub2

I broke mine in a mood, can I just buy a new one off EBay and put the white cable in or will that not work? If not, what do I do? Phone Virgin and tell them the truth, just worried that will cost a lot more money (new router and engineer).

Re: Replacing SuperHub2

No you can't do that.

You will need to call VM and ask for a replacement.

Also no need for duplicate threads.

Thanks Stephen.

4 things:
1) Any idea how much a replacement is?
2) Will they not be cross that I broke it?
3) Why can't I just use someone else's who no longer uses it? (wouldn't that be better for the environment - why does it not work?)
4) You say it doesn't work, why do people keep buying them second hand then, makes no sense.

Many thanks.

Re: Replacing SuperHub2

VM have to register the MAC address of the Superhub on your account. So unless it is them that change it you will not be able to swap it.

Just call them and find out what they say, VM are usually good. Say it was an accident?

People keep buying them as they are idiots, and its actually illegal to sell them in the first place as they belong to VM.

Re: Replacing SuperHub2

I broke it in a mood. To save embarrassment, what can I say to them, I spilt water on it and have thrown it away?

I guess they replace it as they need to make note of the new MAC address so they can recognise it is you?

Many thanks.

Re: Replacing SuperHub2

It doesn't really matter what you say, the computer doesn't care.

Re: Replacing SuperHub2

I'll be speaking to Virgin Media and they will send an engineer around, would be quite embarrassing to say I broke it in a mood!

Re: Replacing SuperHub2

And neither the person you speak to or the computer he/she records it on is going to care. Numerous people do it every day. You're not the first and you won't be the last. Frankly if it was me answering the phone I'd rather you say "I got all ragey off and threw it against the wall" than make up some elaborate BS story to cover it up.

Cheers, good call. I will tell them my wife spilt wine wine on it and I threw it away. Any idea how long it will take to get replaced and how much it will cost. Hate not having the internet, gone to a friends to get some for tonight! Many thanks.

I thought VM would want it back, even if it not working.
