Question Ink Cartridges

Hi all,

What are you opinions on 3rd party ink cartridges?

The last lot I got where a Tesco multi-pack but it was missing two of the cartridges so it didn't completely replace all the ink cartridges.

I'm looking at Cartridge Discount and Cartridge World - the latter are still quite expensive.

I do a lot of photography work and I used to print some images at home - hence having quality original HP inks but now I find I send them away for printing so I'm not to worries about the inks fading etc.

My printer is a HP Photosmart C6280....

/ Discuss??

Re: Ink Cartridges

I would never buy a HP printer due to running costs. I have always used 3rd party inks and have no intention of changing that . I do not print photos so have no issue

Re: Ink Cartridges

I had an Epson a few years back - that was just as bad in running costs.

Re: Ink Cartridges

I have been using these folks for a few years now for my couple of Canon Inkjets and I cannot fault the inks or their service: First Call Inks

Re: Ink Cartridges

I have two HPs and cost around £20 for both Black and colour and thats originals.

I used to use Epson and 3rd party ink but i went through 2 printers in 3 years with the heads going thats why i switched to HP.

Re: Ink Cartridges

When it's a combined head & cartridge, I thought all alternatives were "remanufactured" or refilled, as they could not clone the print head

Re: Ink Cartridges

Depends on the printer. Some will work just fine, some you can refill yourself, some will have arbitrary limitations imposed such as refusing to display the ink level, some will point blank spew error messages on the display 24/7.

Re: Ink Cartridges

I use Jet tech clones on my Epson 680 and I also refill the carts with kits by the same mfr. I have a chip re-setter for the carts. Later Epsons played a nasty trick by having a special port on the cart that if the ink fell below it would render the cart non-resettable/refillable.

No nozzle block or head issues so far over the years but then I'm only doing simple document printing, not full photo glossy so perhaps I'm not that fussy.
