Any Tech help? TIVO box picture probs

My dad recently bought a Samsung smart TV 8000 series. Ever since we have noticed odd TIVO picture issues. We have been able to rule out the TV as the problem as it NEVER occurs when watching either a DVD or Freeview.

It's so difficult to describe but here goes.

Every so often, especially when watching sport, something more fast moving (but not exclusively so) for a second or half second the picture looks like a few frames of the picture have been removed. So although the 'action' continues it distorts the picture to make it look like it has changed from a PAL to NTSC; slightly more soft focus and blurry. Im sorry i can't be more descriptive and it's the best way I can describe it.

What I find most odd is that the TIVO box doesn't always record it.

We have also had ongoing picture break up issue on a second TIVO box and an odd 'drop out' issue with Virgin broadband.

We have had techs out who have adjusted the levels a coupe of times and they have also given us a new cable both internally and re-pulled the cable from the box to us.... issues continue. (we have also tried changing the HDMI lead)

We will be calling them out again soon but the only thing left to change is the TIVO box.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of issue?

Should we insist in Virgin changing our TIVO?

Do/can Samsung TV's and TIVO clash?

Any help or guidance would be great

On the Samsung tv - you need to adjust the options in 'Motion' or 'Motion Plus' to resolve the sports issue.

Sadly we've checked all those setting as it makes no difference where they are.

Another reason we think it has to be either the TIVO box or cabling.

What you are describing appears to be judder which I used to get on Sky Sports.

Some Samsung's seem to show this in the default settings.

I see this alot on samsungs, and always hear "freeview is fine."

I use my test tv and everything is fine, freeview hd doesnt use the hdmi port so its not a perfect test.

I find usually disabling al the "special features" like motion plus and sport mode etc makes the picture better, its like the samsung tv is being too clever trying to improve the image and it doesnt work.

Re: Any Tech help? TIVO box picture probs

Try disabling any of the TVs 'enhancing' features such as motion plus amongst other things.
