There is plenty of competition in the box buying market. Cisco, Samsung and half a dozen others compete heavily against each other. In turn that helps VM be competitive in the pay TV market.

Yes you buy the RECORDABLE sky box from them(sky) but as soon as you cancel your subs they stop you from using the RECORD function! Very unfair in my opinion

But they don't let you use a box of your choice, EU legislation states that pay satellite providers must allow the end user to view a legally obtained subscription via a receiver of their choice via a suitable cam slot, they don't get away with it in other EU countries, only here because British consumers just accept their lot and don't challenge anything, lets start throwing cows into the sea is what i say.
Sky are also breaking a European Directive that states that any available FTA channel should be obtainable by their boxes.

As they are now using non standard FEC variables for some HD channels, it isn't possible to manually tune in some FTA channels not on ones EPG.

I have asked our legal firm to look into this and they have advised me that, whilst they concur with my view, now is not the right time to take any action to force Sky to update their boxes to deal with the new FEC parameters.

Whilst Sky do indeed lease transponder space off Astra for its channels to say they don't own TV infrastructure isn't exactly true is it there's more to it than just delivering pictures/audio to customers houses.

One suspects once the WC is over then things will move quite quickly with regards to certain channels.

You should be Labour spokesman for immigration, you know what I meant, I can't go into an electrical shop, buy a box, insert my viewing card and watch my subscription.

How would they provide a uniform experience across any STB ?

How could they provide technical support across any STB ?

Would they be able to ensure the security/encryption of all their partners content across any STB ?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2

To be fair to the suggestion for some of Liberty Global Euro markets they do a compromise solution of a CI+ module e.g. http://www.upc.nl/televisie/abonneme...i-plus-module/

But that's not the full experience, and it's not standard in the UK market for any provider really.
