I think Virgin will launch the Sky Sports HD Channels over two nights.
-Night one: Move the channels they need to move to make room for the new Sky Sports HD Channels.
-Night two: Launch the new Sky Sports HD Channels on Virgin Media.

MB Views: With the Smallworld updates set for Monday night I am thinking maybe next Wednesday and Thursday - long shot being tonight and part two sometime after Monday.
But all I have that is confirmed is the full list of channels set to move (and maybe set to move early if reports are true).

Can't edit the above but I expect Sky Sports 3, 4 and F1 HD to launch imminently on Virgin Media. I expect this to be in the measure of hours and days not weeks and months.
have got my fingers crossed any way

If they're going to implement this then they either need to allow the option to turn it off, or find a way to get TiVo to make a decision about which recording clashes to cancel that isn't based solely on series link priority.

Presumably there is some protocol for this type of situation with other platforms. I would imagine that a default setting would see the programme without repeats prioritised over the others.

Casualty was rescheduled several days later . . . but Tivo failed to record it because it thought it already had.
I have encountered several similar incidents.
I hope they bring out the Dynamic Programme Guide soon. A serious omission in my view on a box that claims to be so marvellous.

Definitely agree on the dynamic programming guide. Obviously, iPlayer is a solution for the problem you stated assuming you're in the country. In fact, from this summer the launch of a 30-day iPlayer catch-up service should help matters too.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2
I've seen info to suggest Sky will possibly introduce some new bundles/offers , the money saving expert website has 50% off Sky packages available and it says the following
"Plus Sky's cutting newbies' TV & b'band bundle prices from Fri, so it's a double whammy".
Maybe they'll launch the sports HD channels on VM just after releasing these offers , just a thought.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2014) Vol. 2
This is one of the areas where technically a satellite box is better than TiVo, for instance the fa cup final went to extra time, anyone recording britains got talent would have got 40 odd minutes of football, but the epg updated itself with a fresh start time for BGT and because the old recording and the new recording where on the same transponder (same channel obviously) they both continued to record without using another tuner.

Given the development of the TiVo software since Virgin have had it, who here seriously has faith that they will be able to implement this properly?
The current system is, I suspect, perfectly acceptable for most people. I haven't yet missed an episode of The Americans, despite the overrunning of the FA Cup and Champions League finals, because I added padding. I know it's not the most elegant solution, but it's a hell of a lot better than losing recordings in the scenario outlined above - this will happen and people won't even know why.
|
A perfect example of why i think a dynamic epg is needed is the fa cup final ran into extra time. Instead of getting Britain's got talent recorded i ended up with Adrian Giles yapping for ages and most of BGT got cut off from the recording.
