prime 95 & cpu question

Quad core and prime. When run, prime falls over before it's starts on 1 core but is ok on the other 3, it's always the same core and always the same message, something like should be 4 but took 5.
That core works fine in ever other application that stresses the cpu except prime.
Any ideas as to why this might happen.
Memory is ok, old'ish board but very capable of running this chip and not overclocked (although I can get about 3.4 out of it then memory falls over)

Re: prime 95 & cpu question

I would not accept a cpu that failed prime as stable

perhaps underclock a couple of hundred MHz and drop the vcore a smidge see if it falls over then

Re: prime 95 & cpu question

What cpu is it?

What is the voltage that is being used for the cpu?

If it's a Intel board are there any bent or snapped pins in the socket?

If it's a AMD cpu is there any bent or snapped pins on the cpu itself?

Re: prime 95 & cpu question

Q9550 cpu at stock voltage 1.24 IIRC (not 100% sure without checking) no bent pins, checked that.
Mobo is Asus P5G41T-M with 4gb ddr3 @1333 & 1.5v.
It runs find on blended but not high cpu utilisation. I'll post a screenie tomorrow , on tab at mo.
