Printer off line
Hi I had to buy a new lap top which has windows 8 installed . I have a hp envy 4500 series printer which has been working ok. Yester day I went to print a page when a message came up printer off line so wont print, my problem is I cant seem to find out how I get it to go back online. I know the printer is not jammed as it prints from my tablet. I have spent ages trying to find an answer but no joy. Has any one else had this problem and how did you get it to go back to on line many thanks.

Re: Printer off line
Try this.
a. Click Start, go to Control Panel and select Device and Printers.
b. Right Click on the Printer icon select See what's printing in the dropdown menu..
c. In the next screen click Printer in the menu bar. If Use Printer Offline has a check mark to the left of it, click Use Printer Offline to remove the check. The printer will now be used online.

Re: Printer off line
This has happened to me in the past with my HP F4580 printer and it drove me potty.
Couldn't work out what had gone wrong so I tried reinstalling the whole dang thing using the original installation disc but couldn't get to the area that allowed me to reconnect to my wifi.
In the end I just admitted defeat, deleted everything HP from my computer, and went on line and reinstalled the software and driver. Wasted 2 days trying to figure out what had gone wrong and then took 10 minutes to sort it all out the easy way.

Just make sure you click on the link to change to your own printer as I have given the link to my F4580.

Re: Printer off line
I know there has been an issue with selected HP printers since a recent update. Sorry it has not fixed the issue.

Re: Printer off line
Are you printing wirelessly from the laptop or by USB cable? If wireless go to Control Panel > View devices and printers then right click and uninstall your printer and any copies of it that might have installed. Then click Add a Printer and it should automatically find it on the network. If USB, uninstall as above but unplug and re-connect the USB cable with the printer on

Re: Printer off line
I have a similar problem with an HP4100, because its shared on a router. Resetting the router from the software sorts it out, until the next time it happens. When I first set up the sharing arrangement, everything was ok for a while.

Re: Printer off line
I swear my HP printer has it in for me. Works fine if I am not pressed for time but just let it get a whiff of urgency and the dang thing finds another way of playing up. Yet another machine in my life proving that the whole world of IT was invented by a mad man out to drive me up the wall.

Re: Printer off line
Looks like you'll have to try re-installing the software then. Have you recently upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 as that might have caused an issue. Either way go to Add or Remove programs in control panel and uninstall everything to do with the printer and then go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...304877&sw_lang= and download and install the software

Re: Printer off line
I went to control panel , then printers , clicked on add printer and that seems to have got it working again. I don't know why it went off line in the first place . Thank you every one for your help
