Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion

Well an hour and a half later I have got the first 8.1 up and running. What a pain!!!!. lost my startisback and had to endure the tiles whilst I got it back. I may be a stick in the mud but without a touch screen I hate the tiles concept.

I will do the next 8.1 tomorrow so will probably be three sheets to the wind by tomorrow evening. <<<Reminder to me, buy more Gin.>>>

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion

Still using Windows 8.1 without a start menu replacement app.

The last time I had to use the start screen was when I actually installed Windows and that was only to create the shortcuts on the desktop and get, the 8.1 update.

I will be happy when the start menu is back but I can live without it and that is why I have not gone for something like Classic Shell.

It does take a few extra steps sometimes to get to some of the options on windows 8 compared to windows 7.

Either way I will continue to use windows 8 without a replacement tool, but I do hope that they introduce the menu back in to it like it is in windows 7 just to make getting to some options abit quicker and easier.

Re: [MERGED] Windows 8 discussion

According to new details from Wzor, Microsoft will roll out another update to Windows 8.1 (Update 2) sometime in September of this year, during the Autumn season. Microsoft may refer to this update as Windows 8.1 Update 2 or may even call it Windows 8.2, as there appears to be some sort of heated internal discussion on what to call it. Microsoft is expected to roll out the Start Menu, showcased during Build 2014, in this update.

By definition a service pack is a series of updates fixes or enhancements

Also seeing as Windows 8.1 changed NT version from 6.2 to 6.3 and 8.1 update still keeps 6.3 Update 1 even more looks like a service pack do you not agree?

So 8 to 8.1 was a version change 8.1 to 8.1 update was a service pack. If the next update is a new Kernel then it shoudl be 8.2 if it is not then it should be a service pack which they will call update 2

Windows 8.1 Update 2 Confirmed

Microsoft has already rolled out Windows 8.1 Update, but the company is now working on a second pack of improvements that could be released sometime this year and brings several improvements to the modern platform.

According to new details that reached the web this morning, Microsoft is already working on Windows 8.1 Update 2, which is another sign that this OS version is very likely to hit the shelves in just a few months.

Microsoft has already confirmed at the BUILD 2014 developer conference that it's working on a second update for Windows 8.1, but only a few details have actually been confirmed.

Windows 8.1 Update 2 will come with a new Start menu that would try to make the modern operating system a bit more familiar and thus bring back the full functionality of the desktop available in all Windows versions before Windows 8.
