Agree, if you want the speculation then carry on looking at this thread. If you want the cold hard facts of channels launching/closing then use the changelog thread. Simples.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV 2014
It's like Lord of the Flies on here today
Media Boy has been posting these updates for years. There's been plenty of opportunities for the site administrator / moderators to step in to stop it but they haven't because there's no real reason too. He's not breaking any rules.
It's much more valuable than some of the stuff posted on here day in, day out. For starters it's probably the most on topic post of the day!
Anyways instead of airing dirty laundry in public, why not use the report post facility if a post bothers you? That way someone on the site will make a judgment call and it draws the matter to a quick resolve.

As for the forum staff verifying info, if they're not getting the information or have any sources then they can't verify it.
This thread has always been speculation and information. For those wanting concrete launches there is a chanlog which could do with being made into a sticky thread imo to make it easier to find.
FOX24 is a new rumour so yes it is worth posting as this is what this thread is for.
|
You're misunderstanding me. The rumour is certainly worth posting as it's a rumour. However the administrator would use his or her judgement to decide if it should be included on the rumoured coming soon list. If you (or anyone else) has a record of usually being right, presumably they'd be likely to trust your rumours and include them. This would open the forum up to more than the clique and benefit everyone.
Apart from making some people feel 'at home' what possible use does this weekly dump of illiterate nonsense possibly serve? A point raised not by me, but by others.

He does an amazing job but times change. With the lack of new channel launches this year I think it's fair that people are able to suggest new ideas eg frequency, blog links. These aren't criticisms but what social media is all about ie harnessing the power of several people as oppose to just one person.

I can understand where you're coming from but this is the way this thread has been done for years and a majority of users are happy with it being this way. The forum staff would step in i'm sure if they thought it was needed but they probably know what many of us know. Most users are happy with the thread being the way it is and the rumours/speculation keep the thread flowing along nicely. If anyone doesn't wish to read MBs list or rumours others post all they have to do is simply scroll past it.
If you see a poster saying such and such is happening, and it has a huge list under it. Then you see that poster at other locations on your journey i'm pretty sure like me you'd just suck it up and say "meh" that's similar to this thread just suck it up and anything you don't like just 2meh" at it.
One thing i love about CF is everyone seems to get along too and we can have open discussions like this without getting banned or savaged lol.

Because that is not what that is for. It's not an offensive post or potentially breaking rules.
People are merely giving their opinion on how information is most effectively communicated.
I read with interest, every post MB makes, except for the weekly update, which I always skip.
The reason being is that you can't see the wood for the trees; It is such a long post, that it is difficult to quickly pick out the new information from loads of things that haven't changed for ages.
Hence my suggestion to post just changes, which you can see in an instant, and a link to the full list for new readers or those who want to check on previously posted info.

Agreed. We don't need rumour posts vetted by anyone. That way individuals are free to make up their own minds as to the likelihood of that rumour coming to pass.

True however it can be used to report spam, which I think some people on here feel it is.
Forum spam definition:
"Forum spam consists of posts on Internet forums that contains related or unrelated advertisements, links to malicious websites, and abusive or otherwise unwanted information. Forum spam is usually posted onto message boards by automated spambots or manually with unscrupulous intentions with one idea in mind: to get the spam in front of readers who would not otherwise have anything to do with it intentionally."
I can understand people debating what they'd prefer, or what can be changed however ultimately it's down to the poster if he wants to change his style or not. If he doesn't then people will just have to lump it.

Channel Update: Virgin Media axe one 'Total Channel'.
Last night saw Total Channel being axe by one.
Style stop broadcasting on Virgin Media THREE months ago on December 10th.
So if you have anything from Style on your V+ or TiVo box you can no longer view it.

You're spitting in the wind with this. Of course, you have a point, but this is Media Boy's thread and it happens to be the most popular on the forum. It is easy to see the changes because they are in bold - you can soon whizz through what you don't want to see.
I think you will get a barrage of objections if you are suggesting that Media Boy's posts should be censored! He has the right to post what he likes on here, as do we, and as for changing the job descriptions of the Moderators - good luck with that.

I agree. I'm spitting in the wind. But remember this isn't MB's thread anymore, it's the moderators. And I also agree that these dumps are easily scrolled past. But given that everyone does. What is the point in them? Nevertheless, he has a perfect right to dump them, I understand that too.
As for re-writing the moderators job description. I wasn't trying to do that, I was merely pointing out that the re-edited 1st post system is used in other forums successfully and would work very well here if there was a will. If there isn't, no matter. I'll just have to keep scrolling.

We did my list on post one some years back (I PM someone on the Cable Forum Team the info every week) but he has now left.
I do not know or care why I cant no longer launch the 'Coming Soon to Virgin TV' thread on my own anymore.

That is not what I mean. BBC outbid ITV for for premier highlights and FA cup.
Premier highlights are protected and will always be FTA under current legislation. I say let ITV, CH4, CH5 and other FTA channels battle for it.
As to FA Cup although it is only the final protected by the legislation FA have made it clear that they will not let it all go subscription much the same as UEFA have insisted BT make some Champions League matches FTA (which could well end up on Channel 5 if BT are successful in their Bid for it)
