Cornwall had its own language, which became extinct in the 19th century. The point of these channels is to prevent the Gaelic and Welsh languages also becoming extinct.

Fortunately, previously extinct languages such as Cornish and Manx are being revived. So there may come a time when some of your licence fee also goes towards supporting channels in these languages.
Yes, the last I heard was that they were trying to bring back the dinosaurs!

I think I'm beginning to support the campaign to abolish the TV licence altogether if this is how our money is to be spent. Perhaps the support of small minority languages in this way is a better use of the National Lottery money collected. At least people can choose whether to buy National Lottery tickets.

Seriously, public money should not be used to support these small minority interests. There should be a different way of raising money that enables people to choose. A separate voluntary Arts and Culture tax, perhaps, that taxpayers can elect to pay if they wish to. National taxation should be used for the essentials only, such as defence, education, social services and so forth.

Unless we are sensible about how we spend our money, we will never be a low tax economy and people will continue to struggle.

Sadly, they won't be contributing to licence fee, so won't get their own channel.

Surely, this is the point of the licence fee, to fund programmes which wouldn't be made commercially. All viewers pay the fee and they all get something in return. The licence fee isn't a subscription solely to produce more of the content you personally want to see, that's what pay tv provides.

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV 2014

Have we had any more information yet about when the additional BBC channels are going to launch this year? Information on this seems to have died a death.

Which additional channels? BBC One +1 is pencilled in to replace BBC Three in 2015. Assuming the BBC Trust approves the closure of BBC Three and the transfer of its content to iplayer.

Long term it looks like we could be getting all the missing HD variants that we are missing.

Don't think of it as losing a Set Top Box, think of it as gaining High Definition

Re: Coming soon to Virgin TV 2014

Just thinking, if BBC 3 goes online only could VM stream the channel through TIVO on its current EPG slot meaning they would not lose BBC3 at all? Or would they have to do a press red for BBC3 thing like the Netflix and TIVO Channels?

Great work by Media Boy but maybe weekly is a bit too frequent for such summaries, given that it's quite slow at the moment?

I've suggested this before, but why not just list any changes and also add a link to the full list?
