Epson 2000P photo printer
Hi,
I've been given an epson 2000p photo printer that hasn't been used for about 6 months, but was working before (so I was told). However, despite buying some genuine epson inks, giving it a good head flush and nozzle checks, it's not printing. It makes all the right 'noises', the heads move back and forth, the drivers seem correctly installed, but nothing prints!
I'd be obliged if someone could shed some light on this problem.
I've been in touch with Epson (UK & USA), but they were no help at all

Re: Epson 2000P photo printer

Yes, I have tried 'flushing' with a fluid bought off ebay. It did clean the heads and I've also done nozzle cleans and head checks. Still nothing.

Re: Epson 2000P photo printer
Have you tried a self-check print? Sometimes these can unclog heads a lot more.

Thanks, but I've never heard of that. How do I do it?

Probably others out there but as I use this one on my old Stylus 680 I thought I'd mention it.

cool it only says it supports upto xp I assume it does not work on mine at all even under unsupported because its network rather than LPT or USB. The program itself has not been updated for years

You may be able to download a manual / software from the epson site.

If I could stop the printer self cleaning and wasting even more ink, I would. I haven't actually searched to see if it's possible.

Course not, been refilling and buying cheap compatible cartridges for years.
God knows what would happen to the economy if everyone was like us...

Re: Epson 2000P photo printer
A "fixed head" inkjet that's been left 6 months - that's going to be trouble, as the head is going to have a really bad clog. A syringe and flexible tube over the ink takeup spikes might help, as it could well be too badly blocked for self cleaning to work. Use kitchen towel under the head to soak up what does flush out.
Another approach I've seen is to use strips of kitchen towel wetted with fluid under the head, to wipe the face of the head across.
Some youtubers show 2 year junked models being revived, but it's a lottery!

Re: Epson 2000P photo printer
Hi, thanx for all the advice.
But a coupe of qustions?
a. What is "WINDEX" I keep reading about and
b. How easy (or difficult) is it to remove the whole ink head (where the nozzles are) ?
I may as well be drastic if all else fails !

Re: Epson 2000P photo printer
Windex is an ammonia based window cleaner that seems to be a very effective ink cleaner
Checking one forum
http://www.printerknowledge.com/thre...-the-end.3980/
, this http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...Id_165651#dtab is suggested as being a UK equivalent.
Another video tested cheap "Wizz" (not much improvement) and AF Isoclene (worked wonders).
Without removing the head, underwiping with cleaner wetted strips of kitchen towel or J-cloth seems to be the way to attack the clogging from the face side, and syringe with tube from the top side.
NB. Repeatedly using the printer's own clean function will clock up the waste ink pad count, even if nothing actually gets through!
